Question for ESP Donors/ATO Sucks!

So Sandy made a nice gesture by giving ESP donors complimentary tickets for the holiday bowl. However, we only have (2) ESP seats, but are bringing 3 people to the holiday bowl. When I requested to buy one extra ticket and asked them to locate it next to my (2) comp tickets, of course the ATO said no.<br /><br />Ok, fine, can't complain too much since they are comp tickets. So then I try to buy (3) club level seats. Again ATO says no, you can only buy a max of (2) club seats. <br /><br />uh, ok. so then I request the ATO to NOT to put my seats in the 3rd deck. Again, ATO cannot accommodate my request. And now it sounds like they are going to put everyone (even ESP donors) in the upper deck.<br /><br />My question for other ESP donors is whether you had a similar experience with ATO and whether you were able to get them to budge on some of these issues. I also want to confirm with anyone who knows whether Cal's entire allotment is in the 3rd deck (cause if so, that's ridiculous).<br /><br />Something needs to be done about how the ATO is treating its long time season ticket holders and donors. I can guarantee you that if I were the equivalent of an ESP donor at USC, there is no freaking way I'd be getting treated like this. You would think that as an ESP donor, they would at least attempt to accommodate some of my requests. But no. And they wonder why they have trouble getting people to sign up to become bear backers or ESP donors. It'd be a lot cheaper for me to just buy holiday bowl tickets on stubhub and buy single game seats on the 50 yard line for next year's games at memorial on stubhub as well, rather than spending my money on being an ESP donor. And I might as well, since you get treated like crap anyways as an ESP donor.

Your donation to the department thru the ESP program only entitles you to call yourself an ESP donor. You are not entitled to customer service. If you wanted customer service then you should have purchased the customer service add on package. What, you didnt know to buy this special package----well then, you truely are to blame. The customer service package is available only to the true ESP participants---those that purchased more than 12 ESP plans and those that paid cash upfront in full for the entire balance. We have decided to bill your credit card a service fee of $10 for calling the ATO and asking to many questions. Your two seat ESP package only allows you to call the ATO---the fine print clearly states that you are not allowed to ask questions when you call.

You should've gotten an email yesterday saying that you could buy up to 20 club tickets. I bought extras yesterday. Call up ATO and let them know you're an ESP holder and you should be able to amend your order and get club seats in the Cal section. I'm not sure if this works online but it'll definitely work if you call. Chances are they won't be as good as club seats you could get on Stubhub but they'll be club seats with Cal fans.

wow, thanks for the heads up. for some reason I didn't get that email. But anyways, I just called ATO, first they tell me that they are already sold out of the extra club seats. And then they give me the same song and dance about how they can't tell me where my seat are going to be, and that its going to be based on priority points, blah blah blah. I politely ask to speak to the supervisor. I get transferred to Bear Backers. Bear Backers was actually much better. They figure out I'm an ESP donor, and get me my club seats. So for now, ATO still sucks, but at least they transferred me to someone who could help me. So there's that.

Call ATO and get nothing but a punch in the nuts. Wait a while, and suddenly they are getting a little more helpful... Wait longer and you can get a ticket anywhere.

I'm not anywhere near the donor you guys are, but all these ATO horror stories paint a real bad picture. I don't know why we have it so difficult, but maybe its like this across the country?<br /><br />I'm worried about our return to Memorial and seat choosing since we go with a pair of friends we'd really like to sit with from next year until we can't go anymore... If we have to do some internet wizardy to get decent seats next to each other, which I'm sure we will, I'm going to get mad and ultimately do nothing about it. <br /><br />This really hurts some of the fun of Cal games though and the ATO should recognize that yes, we go there to cheer on our team, but another part of it is reconnecting with friends and the campus.

I'm not going to the Holiday Bowl this year; however, if I were, I would absolutely buy my tix directly from the Holiday Bowl (I encourage everyone to do so - stay away from the ATO). I think this string is fair warning to anyone who expects service from the ATO. They simply don't understand or care...

I went into the ATO in person to see whether anything could be done to get the lower section since one of my party cannot access the upper level. But I was told that they could not give me any information on what sections were available to Cal fans. <br /><br />However, from the internet it looked like there were 3 sections open for Cal fans (the club level and the level below and the level above).<br /><br />One would think that (i) the ATO would insist upon more information from the Bowl game host if the Bowl game host and the ATO want more fans to attend and (ii) the ATO would make that information available to the fans.

In the past I've had success dealing with the Bear Backers office. Where the ATO was inflexible, Bear Backers staff was accommodating. (of course, this only works if you're a BB, but I assume anyone that has ESP seats would qualify)

ducky, ato has always been terrible for me. i avoid them whenever possible.<br /><br />i am going w/ three other friends (all of us are ESP). we're giving our comp tickets to one of my friend's nephew (junior at Cal). they are driving down to SD for the game.<br /><br />one of the guy's has a connection at the management company that handles the stadium. we're getting some sweet tix and maybe, fingers crossed, field passes.<br /><br />unlike some on the board, i wanted the holiday bowl WAY MORE than the alamo. san antonio? no thx. san diego should be a blast.<br /><br />as always, ato sucks.

ATO feels like any other processing service. Process driven. ATO.<br /><br />Holiday Bowl tickets for Cal are awful because the Holiday Bowl looks out for local ticket buyers to the extreme in a terrible sports town. She just doesn't give a rat's a$$ about it. This is not a hard problem, it just takes a leader who cares.<br /><br />Plenty of former ESP-level donors I know have walked, and now buy tickets on shubhub or craigs list. Hasn't made an impression. She just does not get it.

You should have first dibs on the best seats at any Cal event always. You should have your own dedicated ESP customer service person who bird dogs any issue you might have and promptly gets back to you in person with any questions you have.<hr></blockquote><br /><br />And, as an ESP donor, I do. It's called the Bear Backer office.

Like much of the administration at Cal, the ATO is borderline incompetent. Don't know why, but it's always been that way and probably always will. <br /><br />Hate to say it, but Cal is run like a typical government bureaucracy.

I was traveling this week and only tried to get bowl tickets this morning (saturday).<br /><br />I am a 20+ year season ticket holder and have been in ESP since the beginning. Website says that bowl tickets are not available to my account. <br /><br />Oops<br /><br />I will call Bear Backers on Monday. They always seem to get these things straightened out.

I did go to the last Nut Bowl at ATT. Before that, the last bowl I attended was the CAL/Texas Tech--Holiday Bowl. I was disappointed in the game but I was more disappointed in the ATO. I have been 30 year season tic holder plust long, long, time Bear Backer, After always supporting CAL ball I find our seats sitting on top of some flag pole with the seagulls. This is the first year I went outside of the CAL confines and ordered my tics through the Holiday Bowl. I can say I am happy with my seats. And I won't have any bird do-do on my shoulders.<br />Go Bears.

I went through the Holiday Bowl and got seats exactly where I wanted them. I'm afraid Bear Backers and season ticket holders are in for a nightmare when it comes to seat allocation at Memorial this summer. I hope the AD sticks to its guns when it stated that season ticket holders who did not renew in 2011 would lose all priority points. We shall see.

They know this issue, but they more want to recruit new season ticket buyers and get people to step up to ESP. We need to remind them loyalty has to count if they don't want all their sales to go through Groupon.<br /><br />Holiday Bowl is really a Pac12 problem since that's where seat allocation is negotiated.

I told a friend of mine to call the ATO, expect no answers and then move on to Stub Hub to get very good seats for a $100 a pop. He is sitting in the second level on the 20 yard line and has tickets in hand. The ATO is still trying to figure out what tickets they have for sale , where they are, and how much they cost. This is just another case of our AD not taking care of the details that are important to her clients.......Cal Bear sports fans!

They live and die by the money they bring in. If they jerk around fans and fans donate based on "loyalty" they will continue the status quo. If they stop getting money they will be forced to change...<br /><br /><br /><br />Funny thing is, You still get to support your team; you buy from a third party, or through the other teams ATO... it will certainly show them if they cant sell tickets, but Cal fans are showing up. What exactly do you think would happen? My guess is that the school would get pretty pissed off and make the simple changes required to keep the money in the school.

EVERY school that is good treats their fans poorly. IE some schools force fans to camp out to get on the list for a lottery.<br /><br />The difference is that you get something for all that hassle. Cal is the only school I can think of where you can consistently (ie EVER SINGLE GAME) get better seats, lower cost and better service going around the school than you can going through them.<br /><br /><br />THAT is the difference. Cal is not a sell-out-every-game team, and the ATO has treated it as though it is for a decade.

It's a pretty bad stadium regardless -- we sat in the third deck in 2004 and first deck in 2006. Winning with strangers beats losing with friends, and it was cold in 2004. However, I'd like to be with friends regardless, so I put my order for 15 tickets through the ATO.
