Both Ron Gould and Tosh bring in top talent every year, AND coach them up. The Cal RB unit and Cal D line unit have been consistently the strength of the team for several/many years. They also put players in the NFL, and their players just rave about them.

I wouldn't trade either of these coaches for ANY coaches in America.

I spoke with an acquaintance yesterday who was pumped that Foster was coming to Cal. He knows the dad and his comments were that it currently is between Cal, Stanford, and USC. He indicated Fosters mom lives in the East Bay or thereabouts and that Foster had previously lived in Oakland. He had been set to go to ASU before the coaching change. He also indicated that the dad wants him to go to Auburn, to which I retorted, "yeah, because it probably pays better". Some schools are recruiting him for DB, but he wants to be a RB. I hadn't heard much about this recruit on our board, but his offer list is pretty impressive. Hopefully he will have a good visit this weekend.

Not surprising.

Throw Coach M in there, too. All 3 are excellent, and have proven that.

Quote:

I'd totally trade both of them for Jim Harbaugh.

Meh. Tedford had his moment in the sun early in his coaching career where Harbaugh is now, too. Sustaining that success seems to be harder. And would you want your coach leaving in 2-3 years?

The more relevant question is whether he would be successful at Cal, maintain that success over a long period, AND stick around at Cal long-term. I would suggest the evidence points to "no" if the option of an NFL payday presents itself...

We switched to a 3/4 because we had our best athletes at linebacker, and the linebacker play has been stellar. The dline had a great year, but Hendricks still was Pac 12 POY. That said, we essentialy played a four man front against Furd and ASU due to LB injuries and strong dline play this year, a reflection of good coaching and recruiting by Tosh as well. They are both terrific coaches.

While I think Gould is the best offensive assistant, the other two assistants are above average. Coach M is a great teacher, and Coach K has made a major upgrade to the WR corp, and is an excellent recruiter, as will become evident quite soon.

I'm pretty impressed with Kiesau and to some degree Arroyo as
well as the 3 previously mentioned. I would also say Pendergast,
except I'm not 100% convinced yet that his scheme doesn't get
too easily exploited by good offensive coaches like Kelly and Sarkisian.
