This is a question only Coach Michalzik can answer. On paper, yeah, move Galas to Guard and get the highly-touted Brazinski to start as Center. However, in reality, who knows how Coach M has evaluated his position players or have even thought about it. Maybe Galas beat out Braz already, fair and square. Maybe the coaches should re-evaluate the Center position like other positions (even QB) this Spring.

offensive line is the hardest to evaluate who will be good on the next level... more busts in this position than anything

People think its easy, but it takes an entire season of fumble-snapping to peak just at the right time during the nationally televised bowl game.

Just wondering. As I've mentioned before, I don't closely follow recruiting. But some guys just stick out and you can't help but NOT know about them, like Brazinski. This year is Treggs, of course. But in previous years, it was Bridgford, who generated so much hoopla around these parts that I actually tuned in to one of his high school games. I just wonder how many of the highly touted recruits from this year's class may not make an impact until our game vs. Texas in 2015.

In all seriousness, I reserve judgment on Galas because I don't really watch OL play closely, nor do I know enough about it. I know enough about the game to realize that it's nearly impossible for the average fan to understand consistently which linemen are doing a good job out there. The average fan does not know the play call, the pre snap and post snap reads, the technique he is supposed to use, etc. All the average fan sees are the penalties, bad snaps or maybe the missed blocks when it is highlighted on the slo mo replay. So when an OL blocks a DL on his inside gap and another DL shoots the resulting hole vacated by the OL to blow up the play in the backfield, the OL might look really bad but was it his fault? Did he use poor technique? Did he make a bad read? Or did the center make a bad line call? Or maybe the OL next to him blew his assignment? I don't know and most of us without a headset don't either. Heck, most of the guys on our sideline don't know whose fault it was. The OL coach and the OC know, and the other OL know, and that's about it. Sure, the bad snaps should have been cleaned up by now. But for all we know Galas is otherwise doing a good job.

against Presbyterian. Both Brazinski and Gabe King looked bad (rusty?). Some other backups looked good in that game, btw,: Adcock and Yarnway come to mind. It was easy to see why these guys were not getting any playing time. Hopefully, another year will make them much better but they need to step it up.

I sincerely hope that is a joke. Anyone that can't handle a shotgun snap should be politely shown the door so the scholarship can be put to actual use. This is effing ridiculous. It is a shotgun snap, not splitting the atom.

If Rivals rated him #2 at Center in the nation in his class and he can't handle shot gun snaps then that is all we need to know about the credibility of the rating sites. The ratings of players out of high school are not necessarily based on anything more than politics and marketing. Too often Cal, the local media and it's fan base has allowed itself to base expectations on hype rather than substance and I fear that, while Kline is a legitimate talent, the hype is going to create unreasonable expectations of him. He will not be another AR as has been implied. And he shouldn't have to be.

Also, evaluating high school talent is very difficult to do accurately because apparent abilities are often inflated by poor opposition, talented teammates, and/or great coaching. Rating agencies often base their projections of success in college on things like size, speed and the success of their high school football program rather than raw football ability because it is very hard to measure how much a player is a "baller". For example, Chris Harper is clearly a "baller" to us, but is rated as only a 3 star because those agencies can't see that. After watching the Holiday bowl, I hope Cal recruiters find a way to evaluate "thoughness" because I think we need more of that if we are going to compete with the best. I don't think the star ratings are based on toughness. They are based on stats and physical characteristics, not the intangibles.

It is shameful and disgusting that our guys can't do it.
