Hmmmmm.......I keep hearing this, looking for fruition one day.<br /><br />Yes.....we are awesome against basement teams.....<br /><br /><blockquote><div class="name-said">Quote:</div><hr>But Tedford is convinced that the Bears, who finished the 2011 season at 7-6, will be improved next fall.<br /><br />"I love our team," Tedford said. By the way, I can't believe ZM has the 3rd most passing yards in Cal history....wow, we really have sucked at QB.....but congrats to Isi for a very good season....<br /><br /><blockquote><div class="name-said">Quote:</div><hr>"We were inexperienced (this season) in certain areas on offense," Tedford said prior to the Texas game. <b>"I think our quarterback situation has been answered a little bit. More pure crap from Tedford. He needs to take off his rose colored glasses. He was totally outcoached last night by Mack Brown. Texas' offense, which is nothing to brag about, at least had a diversified attack, with a handful of trick plays thrown in. Cal, on the other hand, repeated the Tedford routine of running Isi between the tackles on the vast majority of first downs for little or no gain. This has become such a predictible pattern that it's absolutely disgusting. Another given is that Maynard cannot complete any pass over 20 yards; you can absolutely count on any such pass being well overthrown at best or intercepted at worst. <br /><br />Our offensive line play against Texas was beyond pathetic. 6 sacks and 7 net rushing yards for the entire game says it all. Our linemen should go into hiding given how badly they embarrssed themselves last night.<br /><br />Bottom line is I don't see any reason for optimism regarding the 2012 season. The highlight is likely to be the re-opening of the renovated Memorial Stadium rather than anything that happens on the field. So long as Tedford is our coach we'll continue to struggle badly against any team with a winning record. His teams are strictly bottom feeders.

Typical Cal fans being extremely moody after a loss. It wasn't that Mack Brown out coached JT it was that Texas simply had better players on D, which eventually just wore out the pass protection and offensive line in general. The longer the game went the worse our oline play became. Surprisingly I think that ZM's fumbles are hurting the team more than his INT's. We simply had no running game, and JT was forced to rely on ZM to carry the team. Right after the drive to open up the second half it was clear that Texas had control of the LOS and that we had to solely rely on the passing game. Playcalling wasn't the problem, we just got physically punked.

Very few QB's can hold up under such a withering pass rush.<br />Even trick plays(that everybody seems to want) don't work.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
I accept your point in general, because I do think Cal was out-coached because they didn't make offensive adjustments.<br />However, Cal actually scored more points than every other opponent that Texas beat this year, except A&M's 25. In addition, Cal scored more than two of the opponents that Texas lost to(Missouri and K-State.)<br /> So, the "handled easily" comes down to Baylor, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma St.; that is a group that are clearly offensive elite. None of that makes me feel a whole lot better, but the defense didn't come out of nowhere either.

I dont know if I was watching a diffent game, but I did not see "we had to solely rely on the passing game". I think we'll definitely be better. Zach and Isi have a year under their belt. It sounds like Bigs will get some more touches. The defense improved over the course of the year and they'll be good. Jalil is a beast. The corners are good. McCain looks promising. We still have Allen. Stanford will be down a notch. We should get 1 or 2 more Pac 12 wins and probably lose to Ohio St. I'd say 8-4 with an Alamo Bowl or Vegas bowl win sounds about right. As more talent poors in the frustrating losses will grow. I hope Tedford doesn't Ben Braun himself.

Ohio State = loss (no chance in hell are we beating Urban Meyer in the horseshoe.)<br /><br />Washington = loss (that team last night looked scary, at least on one side of the ball.)<br /><br />USC = loss (Tedford is 2-12 in SoCal, and he's not going to suddenly beat the No. 1/2 team in the land.)<br /><br />Oregon = loss (yup)<br /><br />That's 4 guaranteed losses.<br /><br />Plus 1 WTF loss = We have one or more every year. Cal has a stable of great high school QBs behind Maynard. I am not a big fan of Hinder as a player [I'm sure he is a fine kid]. Boehm and Bridgford never really got a shot this year. Instead of wishing for a kid outside your program or some coach, it would be great to have seen either of these QBs play. Even if it meant simplifying the playbook or calls, I was very impressed with both of them in high school.<br /><br />Texas? The great and powerful university of the state of Texas left its QBing in the hands of a kid who should at best be a walk-on [McCoy] and a true freshman [Ash] with barely 3 weeks of August practices. Yeah, that's a recipe for winning. As much as I love my Longhorns, my BP rises every time I think of this.

These are disconcerting quotes. Our QB situation has been answered for what? For 7-6 type seasons? Then yes, they have. Wow, if JT believes that Maynard gives us the best chance at competing for the P12 title (isn't that our goal, or is it? If not, what is the school paying him to do?), he has completely lost it. Again, I seem to have to preface this on every point so no one gets this wrong. Zach is a good, classy kid and is doing what any kid would do if their coach tells them he's the starter - play and try his best. It's not on him. JT has to decide if he wants this program to turn the corner and be big time or not (and considering he makes big time money). Otherwise, he can continue in his middling and mediocre ways. I think he has 1 year to figure it out. But these quotes don't give me any confidence that he will. He hasn't in years so why would he radically change now? Sadly 2012 looks like another season of irrelevance. Good luck to Oregon and $C. *sigh*
