he calls a play to center the ball for a 35 yard FG, when they've got a freshmen kicker, and the #1 QB in the country who had thrown 27 completions in 31 attempts??!?!???

FAIL

What a waste of Luck's talents on that last drive.

I wonder if Luck tried to talk Shaw out of settling for the id range FG at the end of regulation. You can't take those time outs home to the kids.

My thoughts exactly. They got a QB who can drive the field and in OT they act like a bunch of pu$$ies and pass the ball to the kicker.

What a disgusting decision.

However any chance I get to laugh at LSJU I'll take.

Coaches keep making these dumb decisions. 52 seconds left and timeouts and they just stopped for a 35 yard field goal? Completely ridiculous!!!!
I didn't like Gundy's decision at the end either. Half a yard? Just run it in!!!

Many places had a spread of 4. Think betters cared?

If that was Cal and Tavecchio missed the two field goals can you imagine the meltdown on this board? I'm not going to look but I doubt the "Furd board will castrate him as much as this board would under the circumstances, given that he doesn't have the history that Tavecchio has. And of course because they are Stanford they are above that sort of criticism anyway.

I thought the same thing. I thought they could try to QB sneak it in, and if that failed, they could have kicked the FG.

However the key difference is he had the B12's Special Teams POY kicking an extra point, vs a freshmen kicker from the 35 (who missed 1 of 2 already in the game)

89Bear;665001 said:

Yep. No kidding! Shaw must have gone brain dead to turn the game over to his freshman kicker for a mid-range field goal, rather than let Luck do his thing. He clearly had a Tedford moment.

I didn't like Gundy's decision either. Too many things can go wrong on a field goal--even a short one. Much safer to rush for 1/2 yard and a TD.

Why didn't he call a TO on OkSt's last drive? His defense was clearly winded and didn't even know the call on the last play. He ended up not even using all of them.

They'll come back down to earth. Shaw won't be able to keep up that recruiting.

Stanfurd has had the superior QB the last three years. To win was great during year one. To play even in year three shows that JT knows his oppponents and can game plan.

Shaw's coaching decisions in the last minutes of the game and overtime were far worse then anything JT has ever done. They had the win locked up.

Hard to believe they ran the ball with Luck going 27-31 up until that point.

Shaw will actually have to coach some next year..we'll see if can win half the games he did this year with what's left in the cupboard.

...Was also wondering why it was not a 15 yard penalty for Ok State player who scored the TD in OT and immediately took his helmet off in the end zone which is an illegal celebration. Game was not technically over as all scoring plays subject to review...

The coach's bad decision came again at OT when he decided to kick the 43 yarder.

Williams had missed 2 attempts with much shorter distances earlier in the game, and he asked him to do what? The odds were much favorable with Luck trying to convert in the 4th down.

The playcalling at end of regulation and then at OT was way too Tedford-esque.

They were up by 7. Why would you want the other team to score? Stop them and end the game. Snap, hold, poor blocking, choke kick etc...
