Don't get me wrong ... wins are the most important thing on the field and extremely important but it is not the only thing (with apologies to Coach Edwards and Lombardi but they were talking NFL). The fact that these kids have remained steadfast in their commitment to Cal, even after the results of the Holiday Bowl, etc. shows a lot about their individual character...and values.

Parker mentioned Coach Foster, and while he's a UC Davis guy through and through (parts of Aggie Stadium are named after him), he was Tedford's LB coach earlier in his tenure (2002 and 2006, coming out of retirement both times). <br /><br />The work he did with Wendell Hunter, and later with Desmond Bishop and Mickey Pimentel was outstanding. He even helped make Van Hoesen a solid contributor, and not much was expected out of Greg when he came to campus. He was a pleasant surprise.<br /><br />I'd argue we haven't had consistent LB play since. I always felt the trio of Follett, Felder, and Worrell Williams showed flashes of brilliance under Coach Thompson but never quite turned into the all-world forces I thought they would be as a unit. That was a damn talented trio.<br /><br />But I doubt you "pumpers" would understand that.
