Here's my take on the performance of our future Bears and I'd like to see what others felt:

Barton- Very fast, very physical for his size- he routinely knocks back offensive linemen that are much larger. Great natural instincts from the inside linebacker spots and sure tackler. A little more size and he'll be a beast.

Nickerson- Good size, good instincts, good nose for the ball. Not as fast or nimble as Barton. A little more physical maturation and I believe he'll be a solid contributor at Cal.

Hoffpauir- I was quite impressed with his play. Very physical, very quick (quicker than fast it would seem), excellent at run support. Not quite a ball hawking safety, but a hard hitter who I can see jarring a lot of balls loose. I now understand the comparisons to a young Pat Tillman.

Tagaloa- Wow, he's impressive. Looks very big and strong with good feet and balance. Once engaged, the defender had zero chance. Excellent in run blocking, may need to work on footwork in pass protection, but from my perspective, he should be better than any tackle currently on the roster within the next 2 years. I'd be shocked if he weren't a first day draft pick when all's said and done.

Cochran- A beast in the middle that can withstand heavy pressure up the gut. Excellent in run blocking as well. Once Blasquez gets through with him, watch out.

Treggs- Looks like a clone of Jordan Shipley (hopefully he'll put up similar numbers) and Treggs looks faster now than his old highlight films.

Great report. I think the most intriguing thing about that game was the play of Hoffpauir. Besides getting a chance to say his name a bunch of times, he really surprised me, probably because he seems lowly rated by quite a few sites.

I only saw the first half on a rerun so not sure if he fell off. Looks like he played the run really well though. Barton looked fantastic also, and I love the enthusiasm all those guys shared, particularly in the group photo. Part of me wants to believe they were trying to entice DJ Foster to just commit already and be part of the group...

Barton and Nickerson were getting a lot of tackles...you're right in that Hardy is not as fast or prolific as Barton but he reads the play well and he doesn't just hit you, he wraps up and tackles you ......for sure. All the others I agree...Hoffpauir seems like the class clown who will hit you like Taylor Mays.

Hardy Jr looks like his old man coached and taught him well .... he will only get better in the future

All in all ... very excited about what I saw on the field yesterday (didn't watch every play either). This group of recruits look very impressive

GO BEARS!!!!!!

Frankly I think toughness is one of those intangibles that is hard to rate or gets underrated compared to speed and athleticism. But I think we need toughness more than anything at Cal right now. So I'm glad to hear that what I had hoped about him is true. I think Joey O'Connor may be that way too.

Barton is talented enough to see some action this year. Good speed and instincts and plays with great leverage. Very sure tackler. Chases well from sideline to sideline.

I can't believe Hardy Jr. is only a 2* on Scout !! Do you think it is the anti-Cal bias showing again? Hardy Sr. was right about his talent. Hope he can be as effective as his dad.

Tagaloa and Cochran are BEASTS !!! Concur that they will be freaky after Coach B. buffs them up !! Both have good footwork and they are exceptional drive blockers. They can impose their wills on D-linemen.

Loved the versatility of DJ Foster. He has great hands and handles the slot position well. He will be great out of the backfield as a 3rd down back. Hope we get his commitment. The guys were working him pretty intensely. Hope Bryce, et al were successful in their persuasion.

Treggs looked great on fly sweeps. Opposite KA, he will see a lot of single coverage. He's quick and fast ... runs smooth routes.

Now, lets add another O-lineman or two and snare 3 huge D-lineman, who are in our sights. I'm psyched waiting for LOI day. Hope AA announces as a EE soon. Would love to see his footwork on the BB court !!

Thanks for the report 93, Hoffpauir was everywhere and I'm really excited for him to suit up for the Bears, I could see him play very well when he is around the LOS. I hope Foster comes to Cal, that would mean that we would have had 7 commits at the game.

Great report.

Just want to add that Treggs looked really good on a KO return, I dare say Lavelle Hawkins-like in a way. Smooth operator.

Agree about Hoffpauir -- he was everywhere. Love how he tackles low (unlike Cattouse).

Hardy Nickerson is very under-rated. Has a nose for the ball. Maybe a Special Teams hitman early on.

Agree with the posts above regarding the other Cal commits and prospects (Foster). On point.

(NOTE: I think that Mickens kid is going to be yearly nemesis for us up there playing for the Disco Ducks. He's dangerous like those West Virginia WRs/slots were last night.)

Love our guys though. The Matt Cochran commitment was special to see. Everybody (not just the Cochran family) looked very happy for each other, Team Players all the way, an extended Family of sorts.

Tagaloa is a great prospect... and should contribute along with the other young linemen to make up a quality OL in 2013 and beyond.... he won't play this year...
