They say it's hard to beat the same team twice in football. Wouldn't they have been better off being matched up against Okie State? I suppose the shutout minimizes any of this type of sentiment, but I thought I'd throw it out there.<br /><br />Also, now that rematches are acceptable for the national championship game, any chance we get to see two teams square off for a 3rd time? I can see it break down like this. SEC Teams A and B are undefeated until they face each other in the regular season. SEC Team A wins the matchup but loses to SEC Team B in the SEC Championship game. Each team has 1 loss, and all other BCS conference champs have 1 or 2 losses, so there's a rubber match for the national championship. Wouldn't that be great?:sarc:

There have to be many examples of teams in other leagues or sports playing for a second time in the championship game with different results.... not one who lost would claim they should have been champion because the matchup was unfair and they should have been matches with a 'lesser' team as an opponent. So maybe I feel sorry for OkSt, but not LSU. <br /><br />I did just see that Bama is the first team that did not win their conference to win the NCG since Minnesota since 1936. If there is a limited 4 team playoff, maybe it wouldn't be so wrong to limit it to conference champions?<br /><br />Though, that stat is kind of misleading since every time a independent team won the a NCG, they also 'did not win their conference' as they weren't in one.

Maybe I feel a little bad for them getting shut out at home in a title game. The last time that happened in any sport, people rioted in the streets afterwards (see: 2011 Vancouver Canucks).

During the 24 hrs prior to the NC game, I was reading about LSU maybe being the best team of all time, or at least in that conversation. I had never even considered that and was like, WTH?!? Then, reading the argument (# of wins over top teams), I could see the point, at least, albeit reluctantly.<br /><br />But when I think of a "greatest of all time" candidate, I think of star personnel, not the cast that they have, especially on offense. I was therefore GLAD to see them shut out and was hoping Alabama was also kept out of the end zone, so those SEC idiots would look ridiculous.

If Bama had beat LSU 9-6 instead of losing in the first match, I don't think LSU would have gotten a rematch. It sets a bad precedent when a team that doesn't qualify for it's league championship game can play for the NC. LSU played one more game than Bama and the SEC title game exposed weaknesses that Bama exploited. Bama also got an extra week to rest and prepare. Maybe the NFL will change their playoff system so that the wild card teams will get a bye week and the division champions all play the first week of the playoffs. For the same reason Stanford didn't deserve to be in the NC game since they didn't play in the PAC12 title game. Now that we have mega conferences the BCS bowls will have plenty of second place teams to fill spots without dropping down to third place teams for the National Championship. Strength of schedule should also count, Bama played a much easier schedule than LSU and was rewarded with a berth in the NC game. The BCS should now recognize that the system is broken and needs some changes.
