Is it fate that we are consistently f*cked over when we have a good thing going? I ask this because it starting to be a sick joke, next thing you know the facilities will be ruined somehow. I ask this because its not just with Cal its with all my sports teams, with the warriors when Baron left, with the A's constantly getting injured when they have the talent and with the Raiders constantly being screwed over (referring to the tuck rule game as the best example). Why does this keep happening??????

the list is long enough with Cal alone. Here is my list:
1. Mid seventies Cal is in position to win the conference and go to the Rose Bowl but loses out to UCLA who gets in because USC kicked a field goal on third down to tie and get a Bluebonnet bowl berth instead of going for the win against the Bruins. Had they beaten the Bruins Cal goes to the Roses.
2. 1991 Cal has one of their best teams ever and is ranked in the top 10 all year but can't get by eventual national champion Washington even though they were tied late. Then Snyder leaves after the following season.
3. Cal outplays USC in 2004 but some questionable officiating on a USC TD early and bad ST play keeps Cal from the Roses again. Of course some Brown nosing in Texas didn't help.
4.QB Dave Barr was leading Cal to a great year in the 80s until a late hit against UCLA ended his season.
5. Kevin Reilly OSU 2007
6. Lynch leaving early
7. DJ leaving early
8. Best injurty then leaving early
9. 5 star recruit Chris Martin comes and goes.
10. Multiple big game loses late to Stanford in the 70s and 80s.
11. Hawkins trips and falls at the one agains AU in 2006 in a critical loss in the desert. The TD would have made the difference and another bad officiating call did make the difference.
12. Too fluky late drives end in TD's (UW & UA) in '10 costing Cal a trip to a bowl.
13. Tevecchio draws an illegal proceedure penalty then misses the subsequent FG costing Cal a chance to upset top ranked Oregon.
14. Tree sitters block the football program from making necessary improvements at Cal and impacting recruiting.
15. Multiple years of recruiting top players at QB and OL turn out to be mostly disappointments.

WOW. That was really depressing reading that list. Lets add that, if a Cal fan, odds are you rooted for the Giants and Warriors as well.

Well at least we can watch Hairball lead the 49'ers to victory for a trifecta of irony and frustration.

Considering that the plans to open in September appear to be hanging on by a thread, nobody's saying anything, etc. I don't even want to think about how a sneeze (or a curse) might make that fall through too....

Do we never learn?

As one of my co-workers noted (before today's Lupoi news): "You guys shouldn't even HAVE an internet board."

Thought this very thing today. As a Cal fan, we can never have anything nice. Never.

With over 4,000 posts are all your comments this darkly humorous and cryptically philosophical?

Stop the whining and excuses.....if you hire the right man at the top, you can turn things around. We just need to demand excellence! There are many, many examples of lousy to mediocre pro and college programs that blossomed simply by hiring the right man at the top. 49ers went from maybe the worst pro sports franchise to the best under Bill Walsh in the 80s. Look what Harbaugh did at Stanford. If we had a guy like Harbaugh coaching Cal now, our reaction to Lupoi leaving would be, "Yeah, whatever....."

That one really hurt -- we lost all four games. Our only losses of the season and we were thrashing Washington at the time. Ahh, but remember the Oregon game when he came back?

Being a Cal fan is deeply painful most of the time but we have our brief moments.

Edit: Oregon was the week before the Washington game. I think he came back v Arizona?

Me thinks we sold our football souls for those pesky Nobels that we seem to get frequently.
