Talk of more money for coaches is like throwing gasoline on the fire. Last thing he needs. Guilt by association. He may dump her because of the way she has (not) handled this mess. Sandy should know the Chancellor can't bail her out this time. She had to go to the donors. Birgy knows this. Did donors turn her down or did she not not go to them? Either way, Birgy sees an ineffective AD who can make a perfect scapegoat for his issues with the faculty. At least the faculty Birgy critics will be happy to see an athletic department head roll, especially Sandy.

As for cutting sports, it worked at UW and a lot of other places. That's one reason why they have a this dough to throw around.

I'm of the opinion that overall, Sandy has been the best AD at Cal in a long time...afterall, we do have new facilities and multiple winning teams we haven't had before when no academic cared one way or the other....sure, she has made mistakes but my take is that her hands are tied behind her back.....we go to the donors time and time again, it gets old and the well runs dry at times..NO, the answer is not to fire the AD, but to get our AD budget into the real world and cut sports so we can afford to be competitive in football....we don't need scapegoats, we need solutions to chronic problems that have been around for quite some time....
