Per threads here, UW is after Payton, USC is after Shittu, UCLA has already snagged McCarthy - What the hell is JT doing to counter these moves? - I suspect he will end up being out maneouvered (just like he is out coached on gamedays) and Cal will end up falling back on the Plan B guys - l suspect, and I hope I'm wrong, in the next few days we'll be hearing of a whole slew of new offers going out to guys like Dalis Bryce (sp?) - as I have said in other threads, I think Tedford was taken by suprise by the defections (number and rapidity) and I think he has been overwhelmed - probably already has that "deer-in-the-headlights", wide-eyed, stunned look on his face that we have become accoustomed to seeing on Saturdays as games slipped away from him in the 4th quarter.

Not sure what he CAN be doing right now. If he isn't competent to make calls then I just am at a loss. But the NCAA doesn't allow him to camp in front of their houses or deny them in-homes. Nothing is ever really solid until LOI day.<br /><br />That said, I REALLY hope he could make a good hire soon. These kids want to know who their position coach is - and who can really blame them for that.

This is certainly a very difficult situation for the program, but JT has been a closer during recruiting season. I think we will win more than we lose. I don't think UW will come out big. If we lose, it is more likely to be at the expense of the LA schools.

Shaking the faith of Treggs and Thompson concerns me the most. Winning those 2 back and getting them to buy in is important because they can get back into it with the others. That Kline is so solid is crazy to me and the one bit of luck we've had so far. His conviction would probably put most of ours to shame.

The whole staff was on the phone yesterday including Moraga Bear. Anyone would be overwhelmed but you buck it up and do what you need to do. You are just speculating that the worst is happening...maybe it is but you don't know what is going on.....and of course we'll have no offers if guys defect, what else can you do?

I'm probably biased, since I work in Seattle at least a week per month, and their sport talk hosts talk about the Ducks more than they talk about the dogs. <br /><br />It's an echo chamber, I guess.

if Payton and/or his parents have any pride they'd ask Lupoi exactly what he is selling about UW. He won't be the kid's position coach, he knows next to nothing about the school, the program, the city, the surrounding area, etc. I'd be embarrassed for all of them. I'd be especially embarrassed if I was Lupoi. The Paytons could make his night very uncomfortable. "So what are you selling tonight Mr. Lupoi?" I can see recruiting next year. He'll have some real information to impart. But tonight? If he doesn't feel slimy talking about a school he was recruiting against only 48 hours ago then he has no soul. Good riddance if he can do it. I don't want him at Cal if he can do it with a clear conscience.

Find better replacement coaches immediately (better be an upgrade in coaching ability)<br />2. Pitch the long-term picture of a college decision:world-class education quality, alumni, strong community support, life after football opportunities<br />3. Understand that Tosh and K were a big part of their recruiting, but the culture of a team that promotes family and togetherness is at Cal. It takes years to form those bonds and build a culture to where it is. UW's culture will be very different, and will not get there overnight.
