The 'furds are right behind them but are hopefully stagnant for the time being....Now Washington is making its power move. Although Cal may be ahead of the others at the moment, I see in the distance Wazzu starting to make some noise and may be beginning to make its move too. Too bad for OSU, remote Corvallis is not going help 'em much.<br /><br />Tedford's good enough to maintain the status quo for a little while longer. Right now, Cal should beat down Wazzu and the Beavers and give the 'furds all they can handle in the Big Mid-Season Game. Cal is in for it with UDub and the Ducks and it is only going to get tougher for Cal against these two in the coming immediate seasons. <br /><br /><br />It doesn't appear that Maynard or an ensuing frosty inexperienced QB will be able do much against the forces that are now obviously in play in the Pac12. So what to do???....<br /><br />Okay, we've got Tedford for awhile. The poor guy has got it tough (but the guaranteed millions probably soften any hardship). <br /><br />What has to happen now is that Cal has got to start making its move and/or continue to do so.<br /><br />Tedford will have to do what damage control that he can by keeping as many of the recruits that he can and hire very good assistants who can both coach and recruit, maybe not like Tosh, but they will have to be able to recruit. (This will be tough because Tosh was a rare dual threat - he can really coach and really, really recruit.....thinking about last season and post season, it does appear that Tosh has been carrying Tedford a little......but I digress).<br /><br /><br />Cal's recovery will take a year. <br /><br />First, Tedford has to keep the 4 and 5 star recruits from leaving. If he does, Tedford is better than I thought. If he doesn't, then it will appear that Tosh was the real backbone of the recruiting upsurge (because it sure ain't Cal's Won-Loss record). Second, Cal will have to have an 8 and 4 minimum season with a post-season bowl win (if Cal succeeds here, then we can assume that the new assistant coaches can actually coach!). And, thirdly, Tedford replacement assistant coaches (okay, and the new facilities) will have to bring in a Top 20 or better recruiting class for 2013. If Cal can do this, then we can also assume that the new coaches can recruit and, more importantly, Cal with Tedford may survive.<br /><br /><br />Go Bears!

It's either the beginning of the end of the end of the beginning. <br /><br />The first sign will be who the replacements are.<br />The second sign will be how they replacement performs in the first few games of the season.<br />The third sign will be how we play UW this year.<br /><br />etc etc.<br /><br />Beginning of the end will look like another 7-6 season with a loss to UW.<br />End of the beginning will look like a 10-3 with a win over UW. <br /><br />Change is scary because you're on loose footing but the truth is that many good things can come from change. I wasn't sold on Kiesau. We've recruited well without Tosh.

Yes, change is scary, especially if everyone around you is changing and leaving you behind.
