If JT announces a new Receivers Coach today, is that moving forward fast enough after Kiesau's defection? I think the top priority is keeping the wide receiver and o-line commits on board.<br /><br />Go BEARS!

It seems that Geoff McArthur is the fans emotional choice for receivers coach, but I think the team and the wide receivers would be best served with someone who has experience mentoring receivers. Nice that he has pro coaching experience and L.A. ties. <br /><br />Still scratching my head, why $ark brought in Keisau to resurrect his 2009-2010 Colorado offense. I hope we will be pleasantly surprised when Keith Price turns into the next Cody Hawkins.

Like his conservative "just kick the FG" redzone strategy, this may be the safest move by Tedford while hiring GMac is akin to going for it on 4th down in the redzone, something too daring.<br /><br />Maybe Gmac is a "Holmoe Guy" to him and that's a bad thing somehow. I don't know how he thinks at times. That's the job of the Media to ask "Who were the other candidates and why weren't they hired?"<br /><br />Let's see how this all works out in the long run. Maybe it's better, maybe it's not.

I am a big fan of the guy, although I must admit that I am unfamiliar with this coaching experience since playing at Cal. But, I think that it will help reassure our potentially large wide receiver recruiting class (and our current wideouts) that their position coach has professional bona fides and will teach them the fundamentals to get them to the next level.<br /><br />I like that this guy worked with OchoCinco. The fact that OchoCinco still considers Collins a mentor seems to indicate that he can work with even the most extreme wide receiver mentalities.<br /><br />...as long as Powe doesn't pull a cell phone out from under a Cal goalpost pad, or Treggs doesn't change his name to "Tres."

Sounds like a solid hire but I'd be [U]really[/U] happy if it was Geoff McArthur and I think many other alums feel the same way. <br /><br />There is something to be said for exciting the fan base. <br /><br />Something to be said for bringing home one of our own after being betrayed by one of our own. Sending one of Tosh's former teammates, a guy who was a team leader when Tosh was there, out to recruit for Cal against him. A guy who does not know Cal or Tosh is not going to be as effective.

Don't think the "Holmoe Guy" phobia would apply. More likely JT feels he needs someone with some NFL coaching experience and ties to NFL players and LA recruiting scene.<br /><br />As an aside, I spoke with GMac before his senior season and told him I happy I was with his huge junior season and proud of him I was that he had matured so much from his early days at Cal when he put his arm through a window. Geoff told me that a) he did not care how many balls he caught in '04 if it meant Makonnen, Lyman and Toler were open and the offense efficient, and b) that JT meant so much to him for having taught him so many life lessons and how to be accountable and mature. I think there is, or at least was at the time, a deep mutual respect and appreciation between GMac and JT. If true, I suspect he could be hired on staff at some point but this may not be the ideal time as we try to keep commitments from some stud receivers, including four from the LA area.<br /><br />GMac is one of my all time favorite Bears and I would love to have him come home to Cal soon!

Maybe we can take a queue from UW and hire GMac as "Offensive Pass-Game Coordinator."

According to rumors...GMac didn't contact Tedford until last night/this morning. Tedford probably already had an offer out by the time he heard GMac was interested.<br /><br />Doesn't mean it isn't a future possibility still...and I know I would be absolutely thrilled to see this guy come back to us. In the meantime, Gmac is getting some head coaching experience. That can only be good for the future.<br /><br />Still...would absolutely love to see Cal get a reputation for turning former players into standout coaches.<br /><br />~MrGPAC
