So any announcement this week was not going to favor Cal. Even if we hired someone immediately, the new coach wouldn't be able to establish a strong rapport with Arik. Delaying his decision until signing day buys us time. Presumably the family still likes everything else they liked about the school prior to Tosh leaving. Tedford is strong with families. We still have a lot to offer. (It also suggests that neither ND nor Auburn blew the brothers away.) But Arik and the family have to feel comfortable with the new DLine coach. It would also definitely help if Shaq were securely back in the fold, as the two are from the same area and are friends.

If Tedford can hire a good, experienced DL coach (saw that DL coach thread) like in the next couple of days and that new coach, combined with Pendergast, Tedford & Monty (especially now that Solomon is ineligible) can go full-out recruiting him, we have a good shot at getting Arik enrolled sometime next week and start the spring semester.

Arik is basically done with HS. If he waits until Feb., the chance of him picking us is practically zero. What the heck is going to do for 5 months until the summer bridge sessions, right?
