From MB's article - Can't believe this kid is only in high school...seems mature beyond his years:

Buhach Colony offensive line commit Matt Cochran was initially rocked by the news of Lupoi's departure but after time spent evaluating his decision and speaking with family and fellow future Bears, the big center was able to take a longer view on the implications of the Cal coaching changes.

"At first I was shocked and I had a like a 30 minute period wondering what I was going to do, like some other recruits," said Cochran. "But after talking to Coach Tedford and Coach M (offensive line coach Jim Michalczik), I'm confident in my decision and I don't think I have anything to worry about.

"After a while, I had to realize why I committed in the first place and I didn't commit because of Coach Tosh, even though I was close to him. That's what a lot of recruits are saying the same thing right now, too.

"It kind of hurts, but again, I didn't make just a purely football decision to choose Cal. It wasn't just because of one coach. It was a lot of the coaches and all the great guys we'll be playing with.

"Football's a business and changes happen. This is just the first of many changes in years to come.

"Hopefully guys like Ellis (McCarthy) will realize that while Tosh was a big reason that he committed to Cal, it wasn't the only reason and that we're there for him, too, along with all the other great things in the program.

"I know all the O-line guys are still solid, too.

"This isn't a short term decision. It's a lifetime decision and there are lots of great reasons to be at Cal. I'm just going to keep recruiting hard and moving forward."

Can't wait to cheer for this true Bear!

Best thing we have going for us is the current group of solid commits (Kline, Treggs, Cochran, etc) will be working on the potentially undecided players.

I know I'm borrowing here, but he and his classmates are going to go down as Cal legends.

Next year, while down field blocking on a screen play, try to (not ) avoid running into Tosh while going out of bounds

For a young man of 17 or 18 to have this happen in the middle of one of the biggest decisions in his life is a bit harrowing, at least. It sounds like Matt, and others he has mentioned, are sifting through all the decision making process, and coming to some very sound conclusions. A horrible, but probably tremendously building event, at a time when all should be smiles and pats on the back.

Matt, I compliment you, for your quick thinking, and what seems to be your ultimate school of choice. You will find that although feeling angry and betrayed right now, that Cal fans will love the way you have stood by them in these trying times.

There are a number of recruits who may leave. I cannot hold it against them for this is not of their doing. Tosh's betrayal to you, the other recruits and their families, and to all Cal fans, I cannot forgive. The money, I understand; the backhandedness I cannot from a young coach who prides himself in his honesty in recruiting.

Just hope you come to love Cal as much as I did many moons ago. Best of luck and congrats.

Old Blues will not forget the way you've handled yourself in a very difficult situation and the commitment you've shown to our alma mater. You and your recruiting class will always be special to us.

Something tells me CP has this one well-covered.

Now what would be really cool is if we ended up getting a "big name" and paid him the To$h equivalent. (Well that and still ending up with a top-5 class.) We'll see how it goes.
