I say let's call Howie Long. Since he is having fun with Bradshaw, I am sure he can recommend someone.
And if we really want to kick a$$ call Romanowski. I know, hewas linebacker, but now with his roid rage settled down he could tell us how to search and destroy!!!

Id like to see us hire former 49er DLman Bryant Young away from the Florida coaching staff. No clue if he's a good coach but I just think he would be an asset on the staff.

No tweets from today? As is often the case, over promising and under delivering.

What about Nick Holt?? I think he would be a good hire as a D-line coach. Great recruiter, good coach, and motivated to beat UW.

He may not be much of a d-coordinator, but landing him to replace To$h would be a home-run hire.

With the hiring of Chandler, we need to bring someone in who has some relative youth and who can relate to the recruits. Another "old guy" is not ideal.

Clancy can do the harder stuff as our DC.

I definitely saw his energy from the sidelines. Hardy Nickerson or Pain Train

Not sure what to do. I think you need some exp so I am not convinced this is the right fit for Pain Train. That said, would love to see Zach on staff.

Guys, I love Zach as much as the next guy but he's not a viable candidate for the Dline position. Hes never coached the position and has zero experience coaching period. Even To$h was a grad assistant before becoming a dline coach. Can we please end this silly idea?

As a Grad Assistant, sure, can't hurt.

I believe they are allowed to take phone calls or show a recruit around campus. Pretty much anyone on the staff at an athletic department can show a recruit around campus.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Our class in jeopardy. I am sure Tedford will find someone who can coach. But can he find someone who can get up to speed on what Cal is and what it has to offer in the next 12 days?

Any coach JT hires will presumably be able to read some brochures and make a pitch. But Follett would be able to do a lot more than just talk about academic ranking. He knows Tedford. He played for Tedford. He played in the NFL. He has a Cal degree. He has been to the top of the campanile. He gets the Bay Area. He has taken a poli sci class at Cal. He believes in Cal.

For these reasons, I think you are being overly skeptical of ZF, and perhaps just a tad bit naive about an outsider's ability to step in and sell Cal to 17 and 18 year olds.

But from what I read, it seems like Hardy Nickerson would be interested in the job. He would be the ideal, in my opinion. Like Follett, he knows Cal. But unlike the Pain Train, he has actual coaching experience.

dupdadee;685733 said:

As much as we all love Follett, you can't be serious saying we can't find anyone better as a recruiter.

Sure, he knows the school and has great passion, but that doesn't change the fact that he has no formal recruiting experience, other than being a student-athlete host for official visits during his time here.

It seems like so many people here are just putting former Cal guys at the top of the wish list to replace departed coaches, in some ways because they want to believe that since Lupoi was so successful as a recruiter, other former Cal players will be also successful as well.

If Follett REALLY wants to get into the world of coaching, I'm sure Tedford will give him a shot as a GA.

But bottom line is that we don't know how good of a recruiter he is/can be.

This discussion may not matter at all.

One thing certain is that the only job he can get is as a GA because he's just just not qualified to be a DL coach, the ONLY open slot for position coaches.

GAs, are they even allowed to travel & recruit outside campus?

Even if they can, recruits & their parents won't be making their decisions because of some GA with no coaching experience whatsoever telling them about school IMO....

The Duke!;685800 said:

Our class in jeopardy. But I have to disagree with your contention that a GA position is the only job he can get. It is certainly possible that he could secure a High School, JC, 1-AA, or maybe even a lower tier D-1 school job. What is more, the man has a Cal degree. He can probably get many jobs outside of football.

Zach needs 1-3 years of seasoning. But I think he could be great. And I am not saying this based on Lupoi. His passion, dedication, fundamentals, and experience could translate very well. Plus, he seems like he really wants it.

And no, I am pretty sure that GAs can't go on recruiting visits.

Cal announcing Follett as a GA would be great news despite still looking for a DL Coach. Outstanding news, actually.

It would be like grooming a secret weapon to be unleashed on recruiting trails in the future, bringing home a Cal Guy who didn't fall to the Darkside. Reloading in a way.
