I would love the team and the fans to see the Bethea pregame speech before playing USC in 2003. Unfortunately the public version would have to be edited so the F bombs are silent. Best pregame speech ever.

"Get The Tree" is a call that will forever illicit the vision of green pieces of felt being thrown up in the air above a mass of red fans celebrating Stanford win on their home field. Get The Tree was going quite well for a while there, until they rushed the tree at halftime at Memorial and some rugby players disguised as Furd band members threw down their fake instruments and beat the snot out of the kids, but that's another story.<br /><br />Going even further back to when I was a lad, there used to be oranges and apples and tomatoes and such brought in lunches to the Big Game, and they were heaved upon the Stanford band at halftime. It was great fun watching the Stanford Lacrosse team mingle amongst the band, racing around to catch the projectile, and then lob it back up into the stands. That put an end to "bringing your lunch" into the ballpark!<br /><br />Well, with those two thoughts in mind, I'm going to do EVERYTHING humanly possible to make sure I am at Memorial when UW comes to town in November. And then again in 3 years. <br /><br />Can't wait to see how that turns out, if only for the verbal abuse that will be audible all afternoon.

Exactly what we've been lacking since then! The underdog mentality and a fired up leader!<br />If I were JT, I'd show this in every Fall camp and challenge the players as to who is going to be the next Bethea! College football is as much about emotion as talent. Hard to believe he hasn't gotten that!

One more thing, Pre game speech is one thing - Bethea's was off the charts. I would love to see it shown every quarter, if not more often, and this attitude every play. It can be done.<br /><br />GO BEARS!
