Cal degree is better to land jobs in California (among, of course, every other place).

It's a good degree, even if the weather is horrid and the head coach is slimy. It's not like it's WSU, which no one would confused with an elite degree.

(Cal is listed at #1, #2 or #3 WORLD WIDE in a number of international studies of best colleges.)<br /><br />Is it "bashing" to say that it is cold and wet in Seattle.

its bashing to make fun of a degree and graduates from UW, which is what a lot of folks are doing here.

Our staff does not negative recruit for a reason. Most importantly, it really is not right, and if that doesn't do it for some here, it is not likely to have the desired effect.<br /><br />By most accounts, UW is a decent to good school. Seattle, from my memory, is certainly no armpit either. I have a good friend there, a transplant from LA actually. Yes, he misses the warmth and sunshine, but happily calls it home now...<br /><br />Focus on what Cal / UC Berkeley offers, as it really is very, very appealing.

When I saw Payton put on the Cal hat at the AA game, I said to myself that here's a kid that I would feel proud to have at Cal. It wasn't because Payton's a good WR, it was because he was articulate and truely seemed excited about attending the number one public university in America. I will still be impressed with him even if he doesn't go to Cal.

I'm not so much into bashing recruits as I am displaying a frustration with the entire recruiting process, from coaches to these young, prima donna athletes. We call them "commits" but that is a misnomer. Why bother to commit if it isn't worth the paper it hasn't been written on???<br /><br />We are angered byTo$h's "betrayal" of Cal, but he just grabbed for the money because he thought he was worth more than Cal would pay and we were less inclined to stroke his ego anymore than we already had. His "commitment" to Cal ended abruptly, as did his loyalty to the school that educated him and gave him his start in coaching.<br /><br />Perhaps giving your word means very little now. Character is everything and that's the way I raised my children. Once you make a choice, you live up to the obligation. Accepting a <b>commitment</b> to a university is merely a placeholder and a guaranteed backup position for most of these young men while they continue to troll for other offers. They want to continue to test the waters and see how many other programs will become desperate enough to toss them a better deal. <br /><br /><b>All I'm saying is ... if that is your intention, don't bother to COMMIT in the first place and go about your recruiting process. By giving your word to a university, you create chaos in that program IF you continue to shop your services around. What seems innocent to you is actually highly disruptive and potentially destructive to our program. If you wish to remain open to a better offer coming along, then YOU take that gamble and don't pin down one of our slots. We will gladly fill our available scholarships with quality young men who are truly interested in everything Cal has to offer. They will make far better representatives of our university.<br /><br />I think the NCAA encourages this chaos with their LOI policies. Why have a "signing period"? If a kid "COMMITS", why not just have them sign the LOI at that time, protecting the athlete and the school? It wasnt for another two weeks or so did I realize I was going to make a mistake if I went there. <br /><br />Ended up being the best decision of my life to "de-commit" and go to Cal. <br /><br />You keep forgetting - these players are still kids. Personally work productivity has fallen and I'm spending way too much time on here and twitter. <img src="<img src="<img src="<img src="<img src="" />" />" />" />"><br /><br />I do think that some of the recruits play games on twitter but the whole To$h/Kiesau thing understandably threw a wrench into things. Can't blame them for that. <br /><br />I think for your own sake you should just come back in a week and a half after we know who's actually coming to Cal. You'll certainly save yourself some sanity.
