socaltownie;695687 said:

Lot of programs implode when their is a coaching change this late in the season.

But again, some of this is really a failure of the board (and maybe the AD PR squad) to manage expectations.

A) We are NOT a top 15 program. Why? Cause we have NEVER been to a BCS bowl, not really won the Pac-10 (co-champs and losing the Tie Breaker doesn't count) and have struggled (yes, call me captain obvious) against the top conference programs in recent years.

B) WITHOUT AA, Shaq, and the others we have a top 25 class. Not bad. Not great. But a good showing. We could be Sark ;-)

C) So in many ways after the HS All-star game we were "hitting above our weight" - putting together the POSSIBILITY of a monster class. But that is just outside the norm. Few programs without multiple BCS bids do that. MANY of the kids that are rated 4 and 5 stars believe, INCORRECTLY, that they are locks for the NFL. MANY believe that what they need to do is get through the NFL imposed time in school until they will get their GUARANTEED (snicker) multi-gizzillion dollar pay day. So they go to a school where they can do this while "winning".

D) The bottom line - Rome was NOT built in a day. Like many of the negas I too am frustrated by Tedford - especially his lack of risk taking in play calling, game planning and player development. I have even used the word "coward". But far more important than one monster class is continuing to improve the W-L record, improving graduation rates, and leveraging the multi-hundred million dollar investment in facilities over a sustained period of time.

My point was that Tedford seems to be an after thought with these recruits. Anyway, with AA announcing Oregon yesterday, the speculation seems to be that Shaq may follow him there. If that were to happen, wouldn't that be ironic for Washington? They hire Lupoi to catch up to Oregon, but it backfires, and Oregon ends up with a couple of 5 star recruits that were once seemingly headed towards Cal.
