I salute every recruit that made the decision to come to Cal.
Not only are they at one of the very finest academic institutions on the planet where the sky is the limit in our society, they have one of the best state-of-the-art facilities in the country to prep them for the NFL and a support tutor/group for every 2-3 players -- UN-FREAKING-REAL!
They have the most solid combination of circumstances to succeed in life -- almost unfair considering how many extremely hard working students were rejected among the 61,000+ applicants. I hope they sincerely value the opportunity they have to succeed and not for one minute take it for granted.
This class is filled with BALLERS and high character leaders who have been fire tested among some mesmerisingly immature and rash deciding youngsters in the midst of manipulative backstabbing douchebag coaches (i.e. Lupoi and his surprisingly dishonorable machinations--publicly burning every bridge at is alma mater and future opportunities--for life!)
The guys that persevered have already proven to be head strong and it will serve them really well in this gladiator sport competition. The wish washy guys that couldn't handle the Twitter pressure (lol) would not serve this team well in the long-run [perfect example: Jordan Payton, who shut his Twitter account yesterday after disloyally "committing" to 3(!) schools (2 within 12 hrs) and facing the wrath of fans and mocking announcers on ESPN, :facepalm].
The NFL is filled with ELITE head strong competitors who never even got close to having a sterling chance these kids currently have (Oher, Willis, etc.). They made it with, as Patrick Willis calls it, "country strong" mentality (link: http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=7132639). And I rather have this group than a 10 star high school prima donna recruit that couldn't mentally handle the school environment or can't put up with the pressure in a game of being 10 points down with minutes left and starts to put in a half-ass effort. NFL teams seek and select ballers who'll compete to the last second of the clock.
There's 34 current NFLers from Cal - one of the highest numbers of any program in the country (more...than even this year's National Champion, Alabama). Many are Pro Bowlers, Super Bowl winners, last year's Super Bowl MVP, and likely this year's League MVP......the vast majority of them coming through Tedford's system/program. (http://espn.go.com/nfl/college/_/letter/c)
I have a special feeling about this group and wouldn't be surprised if they do amazing things as a group in these coming years.
Again, I salute the #calgang. Work hard.....great things are on the horizon.....if you work at it. The world is your oyster and you have all the platinum and gold tools to succeed. The Cal family will be there to support and root for you on Saturdays. You now have the Cal Lamborghini -- learn how to best use it on the road to the NFL and beyond.....
GO Bears!...
