Soft commit??

From his video, he can tackle well for his size and change direction but maybe they should cut out that last play because it makes his speed look a bit suspect. Perhaps potential to be developed into a Syd-like DB (one can hope)?

*Edit: Another video. Needs work with coverage skills imo. From the title of this video, it sounds like he was going against top senior and upperclassmen WRs invited to the NFL combine.

Happy for the commit but this seems like a head scratcher. East coast kid who commits but has never been to campusand has no idea how we got on him. Hopefully he can visit soon to confirm his commit.

Congrats Shon on your commit. I am curious if Ambrose knows this kid personally since this early on, Cal was his only offer. Now this is NOTHING against the kid at all, I'm just curious about the relationship he has coming on board so soon before getting any offers.....

I am guessing Avery has been in his ear about Cal.

What's with the deal with the arrows like 5 times per play?

The video at the end says he has a 4.51 - 40 which I'm not sure I believe even if hand timed. The kid looks like he has potential though so welcome to Cal!

Hopefully, these kids catch on fast enough to put select posters on ignore. It's pretty obvious some posters live to go above and beyond and rip everything Cal football.

Anyway, congrats to the kid on the likely career at Cal. Hope it's a great experience.

hey BB...this kid is the same size as Syd Quan....so lets see what he can do.

I like what I see on film. He plays the ball very well while it's in the air. He's a good, solid tackler as well. Not a blazer, but seems to have decent speed and the instincts to make up for it.

I've felt our DBs in recent years have had problems consistently wrapping up, so this is definitely a huge plus if true.

True....true....but, as probably like yourself, I am an experienced observer....The "kid" may be a Squid clone?.....my remark was based upon the trend of Pac teams recruiting WRs that are on the tall side.....Squid had instincts which I don't believe are evinced in the film ofthe "kid'....for example, he does not appear to be as fast and as reactive to the ball like squid....maybe it's too early, well, as you say what else can any of us do but wait and see.....however,I believe that there are other "kids" that display just as much talent as was on the film right here in the Bay Area....unless I'm in errot about his national ranking??? That is, Cal could have, if Cal's objective is to offer 3 star qualified DBs, recruited here early.....it would be good PR to land a popular local...you don't think that the objective is to recruit a higher star recruit from Georgia???

not enough being said about the level of play that he is coming from-Norcross is an Atlanta suburb so he is facing "players" every week!

We wouldn't have offered a scholly if the coaches didn't see something they liked about the kid.

Why are we questioning our recruits? come on people. Have some faith in Ambrose and his ability to pick out good corners. Stop putting so much emphasis on junior year film and what his ranking is because even his senior year!

With Mike Leach and Richrod coaching those high powered offenses we're going to need all the DBs we can get.

After last year I'm thrilled with any commit that's not silent, even if it is soft.

I was thinkings he's more like a tyrann mathieu 5'9" with alot of heart , talk too him on twitter gave him a nickname that he's cool with Shon " honey bear " Akins because of his golden blonde hair & similar size too mathieu. I'm down for taking guys from Georgia , Avery Sebastian got the ball rolling for the GA pipeline keep them Rolling

I really hope your comparing him to the Honey Badger based only on his looks. TM is an all American, not a fair comparison for almost anyone, let alone an up and coming 3* getting his first offer.
