Do any of you, certified friends or detractors, kinda agree with what this open practice revealed? That is, the QB situation is Maynard, Hinder, then Kline. We have potential at the RB position to possibly have a running game, and Cal will need the incomng freshmen WRs to rise to the occasion to avoid trouble in River City. The OL and DBs will need to improve and are still a work in progress. The DL and LBs will be the power point of the defense. The kicking game is same-o, same-o despite new kickers. Finally, the ST will again be the cause of some groans.

Sounds about right, although I wonder where Boehm fits into the mix (my guess is he'd be 3rd behind Hinder in order to redshirt Kline; sounds like JT has soured on Bridgford). Not enough data on kicking or ST's yet, although they need to prove something this year.

My guess would be that Kline is ahead of Hinder and Boehm at this point. I have no idea how the draft occurred, but if Blue got the #1 QB pick (Maynard), Gold got numbers 2 and 3 (Bridgford and Kline), and then Blue got 4 and 5 (Boehm and Hinder).

Altnough Kline may be ahead, my guess is that they don't burn the redshirt unless necessary (i.e., Maynard would need to suck badly or get injured and Kline would have to be SIGNIFICANTLY better than Hinder or Boehm).

I think reading too much into Spring Ball is a waste of time.....several guys are out right now and it's not until the Fall that things really shake out...Spring is great for guys like Kline to learn the system and for others like C.J. to show his new moves...otherwise, Spring Ball doesn't reveal as much as you think....unless of course someone really makes a break through.....last year, every post I read said Bridgford beat out Maynard and that included Moraga Bear, Okanes when he was here and all the observers. Look how that turned out.

I am digging the arrival of Maurice Harris. That kid is going to have a bright career here.

When I saw the Blue/Gold rosters I assumed they just assigned the QBs this way to maximize playing time for Kline, not because he's ahead of Boehm and Hinder, but because: 1) They knew the crowd wanted to see the new golden boy play, and 2) They wanted to see his composure and command over what he's learned after only 14 practices.

I believe Kline will redshirt, but I also believe Hinder is lowest on the totem pole. During the game, Hinder ran from sideline to sideline to signal in the plays for each team. Near the end of the game, someone at the top of the stands was screaming for Bridgford to get the headset so Hinder could go in for one series. So I think Bridgford and Boehm are the ones competing for the #2 spot.

I think your analysis is absolutely correct. All that being said - I think Bridgeford underperformed to the point where seeds of doubt have to be popping up in the coache's perspectives. Boehm and Hinder may really compete for the #2 spot. Kline needs to redshirt and mature physically. He will be so much better after a year in the system and with Coach Blasquez. Hopefully he can find a growth spurt and get taller than 6'1" - he is not very big right now.

+1
I went to the game and took notes.
I think you were cheating and looked at my notes.
I would add that I saw #7 making tackles on the edge so much that I thought D.J. Campbell was back. It was Jalen Jefferson at OLB.
Others, not mentioned, that impressed me were Schwenke at C, Kline-of course, T. Rigsbee at LT, C.J. Anderson (RB), Jackson Bouza and Stephen Anderson (WR) and Langford at PK.

D'Amato should be good. Langford proven. youtube kickoffs: www.youtube.com/watch?v=989IPmh50iQ (if he can play). Calder also decent.
