Costco has great Hebrew national hot dogs.

Ikea has good Swedish meatballs and lingonberry sauce.

I like them for different reasons...

I go to Ikea FOR the food, because what else am I going to go for any other time? That place SUCKS to try to get in and get out.

I get Costco Chicken Bakes, Hot Dogs, or Pizza as a quick dinner on by bi-weekly trip to buy chicken and bread...

The thing that gets me is that Ikea is a rip off when compared to Costco. A shot glass drink cup is as much as the meal, and the meal is not nearly the deal that is claimed... The food makes up for it. Also, where else are you going to get sweedish meatballs without going to a resturany?

I like the idiot who commented that chefs in Sweden make better Swedish meatballs...
Thats crazy! Better than the put-it-together-your-self furniture store? =

Never eaten at IKEA, but you can't beat a Hebrew National hot dog and a soda for a buck and a half.

Ikea is more like general Nathan Bedford Forest and Costco is much more like colonel Chamberlain. If you disagree with me I will shove irrelevant historical facts down your throat.

Costco. The hand-dipped ice cream bars are the bomb! They are so big I get one for my wife and I to share and we cannot finish it.

Chicken bake FTW.

Unfortunately, Costco stopped using Hebrew National and opting for the Kirkland brand dogs at stores in SoCal. Plus their drinks have become ridiculously watered down to the point where the soda comes out almost clear now. I get that they have kept the price at $1.50 forever but now the quality is just awful. Raise the price and give us back our Hebrew Nationals.

Agreed about the Hebrew national but Kirkland is only about a half step behind. The drink thing has bugged me in the past. It really depends when they last replaced the syrup I guess.

That said Costco ftw

Free coffee at Ikea if you sign up for the Ikea family loyalty card. Too bad nearly all their furniture is particle board garbage.

Nice reference to Maine's greatest hero, paltry company that it is.

Avoid Ikea, nothing good for you in there. Avoid Costco, except for the fruits and vegetables.

Go Paleo, and keep your good health well into old age.

At least get the Polish, for our signing of Karnowski. Wait, we didn't sign him. Just get three scoops of gelato - yum.

Costco. Only thing good at IKEA is meatballs. Costco churros are the best.

The Costco $2 slice isn't bad either.

No longer are Costco dogs Hebrew National, happened a few years ago. Big controversy when they switched, but HN couldn't meet the demand so they bowed out and Costco now has their dog. And that's a shame since they were clearly better than the new ones. I remember going to get those as a kid...then I discovered Top Dog. End of story.

Ikea meatballs? Really? I bought a few packages of them a few years ago and found over half of them had particles in them that were small bits of gristle that you wouldn't want to chew even if you could. The only good thing about them was they were about the only thing they sell in that store that you don't have to assemble yourself.

I concur. Both of those establishments are for peasants.

I lived in Sweden for a year. They sold the exact same meatballs at the local market in the frozen section.

I never would eat anything at Costco. Don't like to shop at IKEA, but years ago I enjoyed what I thought was good salmon with veggies. Had a coffee with this and seem to remember enjoying a view out the window toward the Bay Bridge. Is that view still available?

I know we shouldn't bring politics into these discussions, especially one meant to be frivolous and light-hearted, but I've avoided IKEA because of what I've read about its founder, Ingvar Kamprad:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ingvar_Kamprad

"In 1994, the personal letters of the Swedish fascist activist Per Engdahl were made public after his death, and it was revealed that Kamprad had joined Engdahl's pro-fascist New Swedish Movement in 1942. Kamprad had raised funds for and recruited members to said group at least as late as September 1945."

I've gotten over the move away from Hebrew National - but I still can't get over dropping Coke for Pepsi

I used to always get the HN Polish, but now I get the regular hot dog, the polish is overly savory/salty for my taste.
