How long do you want to ignore this user?
Been posting here for quite a few years, have met a couple of you in person and absolutely fell in love with this team after my first game in 04.
Long story short, after hearing about a pending restructure at the retail store I work at, I started a job search only to come to the realization that I'll never be where I want without a college degree.
So, in August, I'm packing my things and heading to Stillwater, Oklahoma, where my girlfriends family lives. I'll be able to live on my own and go back to school to get a degree, hopefully in sports management or marketing.
I'm going to miss the bay area tremendously, especially going to CMS for every home game and function, but it's something I have to do to be successful.
I know that an OSU degree doesn't carry anywhere near the same prestige as one from the school many of you attended and I fell in love with, but I'm going to do the best I can.
I've already adopted OSU as my "step team" as I tell my girlfriend, but Cal will always be my number one and I will still wear the script proudly.
Thank you to everyone here for providing some great Cal discussion throughout the years and letting me chime in with my recruiting knowledge. I'll stay active on this site as I can and look forward to maybe meeting some more of you at the game in Austin next year.
Thank you, everyone, and GO BEARS!

Get your degree, and come back to Berkeley and fix our god damn AD marketing. Seriously it sucks, and I bet someone from BI can do a better job

Never feel bad or less with a college degree no matter where it is from...unless you are arguing with a Trojan....Best of luck to you with your studies and future endeavors...and remember, you can still probably order the Pac 12 Sports Package and watch your still favorite Golden Bears.....

over the years. I left with my family at age 10 to live in Long Beach, and was lucky enough to re-visit and graduate from Cal. I am now 62, still in LB. There are two things you can never have taken away from you: 1) Your degree (congrats on that when it comes), and 2) being a lifetime Bear fan!! Good luck to you and your family!

Good luck to you sir. If your dream is to attend Cal it is still possible. Work hard, get good grades, and apply to a Cal grad school program. I'm not sure if Berkeley offers a graduate school program for your particular focus but it is also very common to change degrees while in college. Either way, good luck to you!

Good luck on your move, `04. Maybe by the time you graduate from OSU your new alma mater will be in the Pac16 (this actually was pretty close to happening last year!)

Hope to make the game in Austin next year as well.

Good luck to you. That is a heatbreaking decision. Don't be shy about recruiting the midwest boys to Cal while you're at it.

o my god Ric don't leave! for chrissakes that is about the most sincere statement of affection for our golden bears I have heard in I don't know how long. With all the negativity we have to hear on this board to lose good folks like Ric from being at the Stadium because he is trying to do more with his life. You're a true Golden Bear, best of luck with everything. Come back soon!

Go Bears!

...I just finished watching Larry Crowne and this so much reminds me of that, especially the retail issue. A great move and as someone said a college degree will always be a good thing.

Tell you what...you come on back for that graduate work, say Haas B School and that way you can be across the street and "back home!"

:cheer :cheer :cheer :cheer :cheer

And don't too much of this:

Ah you're right. Next year is Ohio state at cal. I'll have to come home for that one.
Thanks for the support guys, I'll always be a bear and will still follow this team like I do.

Yes, get your degree then donate lots of money to Cal. FWIW when I moved away from CA after school, my passion for Cal sports only grew. It made coming back home to visit that much sweeter.

Hey, good luck man. I'm also a huge Cal fan who didn't go to Cal either. Hell, I went to trade school. . Cal forever bro.:gobears:

Some of the most successful people I know went to 'lesser' schools than Cal, I also know Ivy league people that were completely dysfunctional. In the end, it is all about the person, not just the school...best of luck to you.

You will always be a Bear no matter where you go to school. It comes from a love of place and culture as much as anything else, and you certainly have that. Best of luck. As others posters have said, my love for and appreciation of Cal only grew as I moved farther from Berkeley. I'm sure that this will happen to you. Go Bears!

one of my best friends (colleague) got her BA and PHD from OSU; she's now a heavyweight in her field.

Good luck and Go Bears (and, I might add, that the Cowboys are my least-hated team in the Little-12).

I'll make the most of it. I'm 26, and thankfully now mature enough to handle school and work full time. My family is happy for me, and I'll be the first one in my family to graduate from college when I do.
Maybe my path will lead me back to the bay area, who knows...

OSU had a good run last year, so you should have some fun while back in school. But get your arse back to Berkeley when you're done!

my best friend goes to cal football games with me, he never attended cal, but frankly he is 10x the cal fan that the average cal alum is. i want to wish you the best of luck, and to let you know that irrespective of what school issues you your diploma, your friends at BI don't just love having had you as a regular, but we want you back.

and don't let taking some time off intimidate you in any way, shape, or form. i dropped out of college after my freshman year for 18 months after my would-be tennis career went up in smoke and i didn't feel i was getting what i should've been out of my classes. i decided to use the "concurrent enrollment" program to take 4 classes at cal. managed some A's, wound up transferring in , and never looked back. you're the best judge of when you're ready to get what you need out of school, no one else.
