Y'all need to give specific instances when LSU or Bama did this or back off. It sounds like the ultimate whine when you generically accuse the 2 schools in the NC game. You dismiss the Furd situation as not analogous in favor of a non-existent situation at other schools. Based on what? Jealousy, innuendo, group generated and developed big lies? Now, do those schools do things that others might find objectionable? Maybe, probably, and I'm sure Penn State fans have been making similar comments to yours for years about other schools. Its college football. Everyone's sh^t stinks. Those that pretend theirs don't are the ones probably hiding the pedophiles. And don't pretend that if it would guarantee a Rose Bowl, you wouldn't do the same thing and throw in your left nut. Most of this site gave Tosh daily oral-jobs but then when he flipped us around to take the other end too, he became the bad guy - "we would NEVER have someone like that on OUR staff." Except for when we did. (sorry for the tone - its not against you specifically but the recurrent BI meme. Sort of like Olympics - 16 yo Chinese girl does great - she has to be juiced. 17 yo M Franklin turns around in 10 minutes from a semis race to win a gold and we say, "Oh what a fine young American girl. She is so mature!") And of course we may do the exact same thing this week to get an ILB.
Back in the day Tosh was loved around here for what we all had visibility - the results, and pretty damn good ones. His true colors surfaced for us to see this past Feb, and it was despicable. Of course our opinions would change after such conduct. We never knew him to be such a person before...
With respect to the Chinese girl swimmer, it's not about her, but the Chinese government. They are so hung-up on how they look to the world, the image of it all, they'll do whatever they want to reach a desired end with complete disregard to the means. In my line of work, a good portion of it dealing with counterfeit equipment, the vast majority traces back to China. The government will not cooperate one bit. Bunch of pricks. One of their biggest companies copied our products, denied it to the very end, even when the software was found to have the same bugs as our software, lol. Like so many Chinese companies, state sponsored. Reverse engineer, do anything for a buck mentality...
The Olympics held there 4 years ago with the Chinese female gymnasts... Several of them, by expert accounts, noting normal body / age characteristics, were clearly below the minimum age of 14. And the cute little girl lip-syncing during the opening ceremony reveals the pathetic "look at us" obsession.
With 1.3 billion people alone, China should excel at the Games. Add to that the conviction of the government to make medaling (and meddling) a focus, they will dominate. The question is how are they going to realize their aspirations. Forgot where I read it, but the Chinese have had more athletes caught doping in the Olympics than any other country, by a margin of over 3:1. The most recent of these were in the 90's, swimmers as I recall. Sure other countries have too, including the US, but there's a massive difference when it's one athlete making a wrong choice as opposed to a government dictating from above...
The Chinese government has a huge vested interest in these people they groom into athletes to put on the world stage. I've read and heard of plenty of stories of how young Chinese kids are selected for certain sports at very young ages. How they practice around the clock, removed from their families so they can make the 'central country' proud.
How many of these Chinese athletes are working at a job, or two even, going to college, raising kids, etc? I can't speak for these Games, but from what I knew before, they all were supported by the government so all of their time could be dedicated to their sport. The interest of the Chinese government to do well seemingly knows no bounds...
Missy Franklin was mentioned... To contrast the above, she simply fell in love with swimming at a young age. She's still at home with her family and attends high school. An otherwise normal life, all things considered. This is true for so many Olympians here. They have jobs, attend universities, are married and raising kids, all while training. I've often read about how some of our aspiring athletes have taken loans and borrowed money from colleagues for plane fare to compete. I realize that some US athletes, I think gymnast Gabby Douglas might be one, choose to train away from their families. The key word here is "choose" though, as in one's own volition...
It is without question that the Chinese government takes these Games extremely seriously. They are involved to a degree for which the US government is not, nor probably any other government. Such intervention and intrusion would not be tolerated here and elsewhere. It is not out of line to think that the Chinese government would tamper even further through other means, such as doping, yet again.
The sad thing about this is that what if the Chinese swimmer in question really is clean. China's past transgressions and current conduct in world affairs unfortunately makes one wonder... Swimming the final leg faster than her male counterpart has never happened before. Circumstantially, it doesn't look good. The American swim coach should have ideally kept his mouth shut, or at least been more careful with his choice of words.
Oh, and Kiffen is a punk. And China's colors remind me too much of Southern Cal too! Had to get us back on track, lol.
