EDIT Mathieu Dismissed from Football Team - LSUSports.net
BATON ROUGE -- Tyrann Mathieu has been dismissed from the LSU football team for violation of team policy, head coach Les Miles announced on Friday.
"This is a very difficult day for our team," Miles said. "We lose a quality person, teammate and contributor to the program. However, with that being said, we have a standard that our players are held to and when that standard is not met, there are consequences.
"It's hard because we all love Tyrann. We will do what we can as coaches, teammates, and friends to get him on a path where he can have success. We are going to miss him."

Wow. I wonder what he actually did since I'm sure LSU went out of their way to protect him. Also wonder where he winds up now. Seems like he has a choice staring him in the face. Shape up and prove to everyone he can make it to the NFL, or believe his own hype and just keep on doing what he's doing. This ought to be good.

If Tyrann Mathieu became ineligible bc of a 3rd failed drug test, he will not be able to play this yr at another NCAA school.

Most everyone believes he failed another drug test. He was suspended last year for one game because of drugs. He can go to an FCS school and play immediately or wait a year and go to another FBS school.

LSU kicks Tyrann Mathieu off team
BATON ROUGE, La. -- LSU has dismissed Heisman Trophy finalist Tyrann Mathieu from its football program for violating school and team rules.
A source told ESPN's Joe Schad on Friday that Mathieu has been looking for a new school to play for this season.
Last season Mathieu was a finalist for the Heisman Trophy and won the Chuck Bednarik Award as the nation's best defensive player.
The junior defensive back nicknamed Honey Badger was the surprising Heisman Trophy candidate last season as the Tigers won the Southeastern Conference championship and reached the BCS title game. LSU lost the championship 21-0 to Alabama.
At a news conference Friday, coach Les Miles would not specify the reason Mathieu was kicked off the team.
"We'll miss the guy," Miles said. "The football team's got to go on. We'll have to fill the void."
LSU enters this season ranked No. 1 in the coaches' poll. The AP college football poll will be released Aug. 18. The Tigers opened preseason camp last week as one of the favorites to reach the national championship game again.
Mathieu was the team's big-play machine at cornerback and on special teams. The All-American scored four touchdowns -- two on punt returns and two on fumble returns -- intercepted two passes and caused six fumbles and recovered four.
He was also suspended for a game last year for failing a drug test. The Tigers beat Auburn 45-10 without Mathieu.
Mathieu has two years of eligibility left and could transfer, but he would have to sit out this season if he went to another school in major college football. If he moved down a level, to FCS, he could play right away.
"I can't imagine he would be here and not want to transfer and go play football," Miles said. "We will help him in every way we can."
LSU isn't quite as deep at cornerback as it was last season, when it had All-American Morris Claiborne and often used Mathieu as a nickleback. Tharold Simon is the other starter opposite Mathieu. Second on the depth chart are redshirt freshman Jalen Collins and freshman Jalen Mills.

Rumor has it he's headed to Alabamie to be with Coach Nick.

I'm betting since he is a junior that he'll go to an FCS school, play out the year and then declare for the draft next year. Many pro teams will take a chance on him.
Edit....I may have the rules mixed up so maybe he has to go to an even lower division school.. Not sure now but Feldman posted this:

Miles also kicked his starting QB, Ryan Perriloux, off the team a few years back, also right before the season. And he plays a tough OOC schedule every year. I am thinking the early Les Miles narrative is off. Too bad, it was more fun when he was hateable.

Despite the off the field issues, he will still get drafted by an NFL team looking for a DB. It's sad but true as he is a great talent with a lot of baggage to go with that talent, but the NFL is a league that will forgive a lot of off the field issues if you can lock down a #1 WR or get INTs. In college football, he was a game changer.

I used to think this was always 100% true until Burfict last year. I know he posted awful numbers at the combine and couldn't interview well, but he went from a potential first rounder, to a third rounder to a no rounder. I think a lot of that had to do with him beliving his own hype and the idea that he didn't need to prove anything else.
ColoradoBear1;841921468 said:
Burfict was sporting a tracy morganesque belly at the combine, but you do wonder what a player does of they are out for a year and not training as a member of a college team. Didn't work out so well for Clarett. But even he got drafted, but then made the mistake of turning down guaranteed money for an incentive based contract.

Are we talking about PEDs, or sticky icky?
GB54;841921472 said:
Burfict had a horrible junior year on and off the field and ran a 5.0 40.
I think not playing and entering the draft may be the worse option.

^ i think it's the "i don't want to wait" syndrome--why else would he fail a series of drug tests? He's been catered to all his life--instant gratification, doubt he will do a 180 right now.
Plus, no doubt he will have people trying to profit off of him saying things like, "just wait a year and go to the NFL, you're a 1st rounder, no doubt bro". Agents a plenty too.

It hasn’t been long since Tyrann Mathieu was kicked off of the LSU football squad and it looks like the “Honey Badger” could already have a new home. Reports are indicating that Mathieu will be staying in the state of Louisiana and transferring to McNeese State University.
Quote:
Mathieu grew up attending St. Augustine High School in New Orleans and stayed close to home when he enrolled at LSU. The 20-year-old will still be close to home at McNeese State, which is located in Lake Charles, Louisiana. It is a smart move for Mathieu to stay close to his support system as he tries to regroup and resurrect his college football career.

Wow, you have to be REALLY bad to get kicked out of an SEC school. Let's not praise Les Miles too much here. He had a functionally illiterate starting cornerback on the team last year.

That was my first thought. High profile players don't get kicked out of SEC schools for doing drugs.
