With Phase-II of the build nearly complete, does anyone have any pics of the Visitors Locker Room?
A built in advantage that was to our benefit, it was the bain of visitors. Wishfully, I hope the new or, updated Visitors Locker Room retains its, ahem, 1920's vintage feel.

9. Memorial Stadium (California)
Want to be instantly miserable? Walk into Cal's visitor's locker room. The tiny, ancient quarters define depressing and decrepit in oh so many ways. The actual locker room itself is all but falling apart, the showers and bathroom lack any comforts and there's no room for trainers or equipment staffers to set up shop (they end up taking over a shower room). Also, it's essentially in the concourse, so you can smell the hot dogs and popcorn and hear the crowd. And lastly, the journey to the field includes a walk down windy, rickety steps, a downhill walk down a narrow tunnel and then a walk up a set of stairs to get to field level. Though the score is relatively close between Cal's visitor's locker room and the others in the conference, it's not even a contest that this one takes the title. So congrats go out to Memorial Stadium; you win -- lose? -- this competition.

To make it all fit, he put the lockers of his smaller players - quarterbacks and kickers - in the closet-sized anteroom. The adjacent shower room became the training room, where players were taped and massaged while admiring the pro-Cal graffiti left on the walls. "Bear Territory," it read, and not far off in its description.

"I've never seen anything like it. It's like a meat locker in here," said Michigan State equipment manager Dylan Marinez as he unloaded trunks full of gear.

Nope. The visitors locker rooms will be pretty nice. Not as nice as Cal's, but a big step up from what was there previously. See this video posted by MB earlier this month:

http://www.bearinsider.com/news/story.php?article=61

If you go to the 4:15 mark, you'll see the visitors' locker rooms. Note that everything in this video appears narrower than it is, as the video was compressed from a 16:9 format to 4:3.

I understand from past posts on this topic that the visitors locker room will be used by other Cal sports on non-football game days, so there's a reason to make them reasonably nice.

I'm glad they still have to navigate stairs in a narrow hallway, then more stairs UP to the playing field...no rushing onto the field en masse to the cheers of their fans. If it were my choice I'd give them such low water pressure that they'd barely get wet in the shower.

I read recently that Iowa's(?) basketball locker room for visitors was (is?) painted a very peaceful, soothing pink. Nice touch.

The visitors locker rooms are split into four separate rooms.

They're nicer but teams will be split in four directions, with no central space to address their team so it will be no picnic.

Why not just make it plain and austere but spatially fair? No rats or mud floors...whatever.

The central space was useful to the equipment managers as well as the coaches for meetings. The shower room doesn't look much larger and part of the visitor's locker room is across the hall. One of the jobs of trainers and equipment men is to organize the locker room before the team arrives for the pre-game practice. Over the years they developed a plan on how to best arrange the locker room for their team; change for them was not a 'good' thing.
I imagine the 'new' visitor's locker room will get it's share of 'understandable' complaints for the first couple of years. Unlike the old one which could have been easily upgraded, simple wood construction with plenty of space to the North for expansion; the new one is pretty well set in stone (or concrete) without much potential for expansion. Forty years ago when I was in visitor's locker rooms throughout the conference; there were several that were better than CMS' "new" visitor's locker room. Back in 1968, Michigan's visitor locker room set the gold standard for the most miserable locker room I have ever had to work in (and Cal won or it would have been worse). Don't expect kudos for the new visitor's facility.

FWIW If you were wearing football cleats, those old wooden stairs were much kinder to the body than concrete steps. I hated walking on concrete in cleats, concrete steps were the worst. Molded sole 'turf' shoes are probably fine on either. When the field was natural grass, those wood steps and gravel tunnel to the field were a big plus to the visitors wearing football cleats.

It's fun to joke around about this, but I think the accomodations for the visitors should be at about the "acceptable" level.

Same with where we place the visiting fans, band, etc.

Do unto others...

aren't the visiting locker rooms going to be used by some Cal teams (not football obviously)? That would explain the sections which would let, say, field hockey dress together in one area while softball is together in another area. No other sport has 100 players on the roster.

I believe that the Visiting Team Locker Rooms in CMS will be used by visiting teams of other sports as well as football.

It's my understanding that the teams housed in the SAHPC have their locker room facilities in the SAHPC.

Per one of my cousins who graduated from Iowa and still lives in Iowa City:

"No. That's not true
But, the visitors' football locker room is. Hayden Fry was an amateur psychologist and it's been pink ever since he came. I'm not sure which shade of pink."

Tree Cutter,

Pictures of the visitors locker room can be found in this Memorial Stadium photo gallery:
