Good lord, I thought the west side was only remodeled/renovated. I didn't realize it was effectively torn down and rebuilt (save for the outer facade)

Really? Part of the reason it has been such a big deal is the new technology that went into it.

Anyway, this is quite an impressive timelapse. I'm glad there are people in the world who put together this stuff.

Wow, you only now realized that??! At first I didn't realize that was the plan either, but eventually I learned that it was going to be completely gutted and everything replaced.

But what really fascinated me when watching the EarthCam long ago was that I didn't realize (or maybe I saw the evidence at the stadium but it never registered in my brain) that below the concourse, there was a dirt bowl supporting the lower rows. Now that the dirt is gone, there's a huge amount of space that wasn't there before. I know part of it is for the Field Club, but will anything else on the lowest level be accessible or of interest to fans?

I feel like Cal has almost intentionally downplayed the scale and grandeur of the project. Even in the latest video tour you get the impression it was mostly seismic work and historic restoration with some basic modern amenities added. According to the Webcor Project page(the link defaults to photos, click the details tab) the remodel includes 220,509 square feet of newly constructed interior space. It's a massive building.

This illustration is from one of the EIRs. The PDF was low resolution and tough to read but shows, in addition to the Field Club and mezzanine, the Hall of Fame room, a team store, visitor locker rooms, an auditorium(?), Big Game room, a kitchen, operations space and another room that looks like it's for officials on the Field/Plaza level.

Does anyone know what the scoreboard enhancements are, if any?

Awesome! I guess there were some jumps when the cam wasn't working for like a week or two? Anyway, great video. Should spread that link around.

Seriously?

You can't have been paying that little attention. You are on this site all the time.

Freaking awesome. I know there was a lot of concern with the webcam going down all the time that we couldn't make one of these, but glad to find out that was unfounded. Would be awesome to show this on the video board during the Nevada game.

Didn't realize there was going to be a team store at the stadium. Anyone know if it will be open 9/1?

It's a very impressive project, far more than a remodel. Aside from keeping the fascade and the footprint, we basically build a new stadium and athletic center (the center was entirely new). Very impressive, and something to be proud of. Go Bears!!

Ah, the old 1000:3 aspect ratio.

Seriously though, great video.

Although this doesn't cover the last few months, and it's a bit jumpy, I find this time-lapse more satisfying:

I think so. Notice, for example, the total lack of rain.

Knowing that Sept. 1 is the first game back at Memorial, I've had lots of questions from my non-Cal friends about the stadium renovation, and what's involved. If they've only seen pictures of the facade, or happened to walk by while on a visit to Berkeley, they don't really understand the enormity of what was involved. I basically have described the project as bracing the west facade of the stadium, which is what the casual observer would see, tearing everything out behind it, and essentially building an entirely new building, with its own independent support structure, to which the old facade was fastened. That's really what happened. It really is a great construction achievement. I can't wait to see what it'll feel like to be in the new concourse with all that extra space and the high ceiling and archways.
