Dilfer has been a great contributor for CAL/Tedford. He's got a big in with high school talent and isn't going anywhere except up at ESPN and other huge platforms (Elite 11 head coach) to reach recruits. Go Bears!

And, I'm sure Tosh is not held in high regard by Dilfer either so when To$h's subpar coaching career ends good luck with broadcasting or the pros.

Between the two of them, Dilfer may be the most important to have as an ally.

In my dreams.... Dilfer would be a recruiting madman

Maybe this thread is confusing me, but I'm not getting the Dilfer = "Cal ally" connection.

I mean, wouldn't Fresno State being saying the same thing ("Dilfer is an important ally to have") since Dilfer once played there as a QB and now coaches Elite 11 QBs? Sorry, but I don't see any ESPN-fed pipeline to Fresno.

There's no more important position than QB and Dilfer helps us tremendously here! Other players follow a QB as well. Dilfer is a recruiting treasure that may prove more valuable than Tosh.

Dilfer's national high school influence is growing and i'm sure he has contact with other high profile high school players.

Tedford has taken flack over Tosh debacle, so he should get some credit for strong relationship with Dilfer.

Dilfer isn't on our staff and doesn't actively recruit for Cal to my knowledge so comparing he and Tosh is a complete non sequitur.

Let's not forget that Trent was being recruited by Cal as a linebacker and giving us serious consideration before FSU offered as a QB. He has a fondness for CAL.

The OP was the worst one in many years. No doubt about it.

I would love to have him on our staff. He knows the QB position, he knows Tedford's offense and he could recruit the bejesus out of most anyone. Don't think he wants to take a pay cut to work way more hours though.

News Flash fellas: Jeff Tedford coached Trent Dilfer. Dilfer loves Tedford. That relationship is great since Dilfer is head coach of the elite 11. sorry i had to spell this out.

In addition, Dilfer is very complimentary of Tedford/CAL with recuits and on a national stage. It's a very positive, granted less direct, relationship and considering Dilfer's prominent position with high school athletes pays big dividends.

Why is this so confusing?? Maybe you didn't know the history. Or, just not willing to accept that the now most influential high school qb guru loves our coach? These kids that go to the elite 11 idolize Dilfer and have been doing so prior to picking their college.

Also, do you think it's remotely possible they inquire about college choices with Dilfer at camp prior to actually signing???

Go Bears!!! You sunshine pumpers make it tough on everyone.

A little known Dilfer-Cal connection.

Trent Dilfer's step father was Frank Lynch, who was Cal's starting fullback in 1965or 66.
He wanted to go to Cal, but Cal offered him a scholly as a tight end (I think). His heart was set on QB, so he opted for Fresno State.

Yup....I thought everyone knew by now that Dilfer is a big Cal fan..maybe more of a JT fan but Cal nonetheless.....Dilfer and Herm Edwards are usually the most prominent talking heads at ESPN to give us a shout out when they can....

Well, not the most retarded, but close to it. Tosh actually worked for CAL, Dilfer has not ever worked for CAL. No recruit has ever mentioned Dilfer when coming to CAL. Thread fail.

Too bad almost all of the QBs at Elite 11 already commit to a school prior to attending the camp with Dilfer. And, if you think that during down time Dilfer is going around to the uncommitted lads trying to get them to go to Cal, your crack is better than mine.

As someone else has indicated, there is no one on Cal's roster that has come to Cal because of Dilfer's influence.

google this: "Coach Tedford and coach (Marcus) Arroyo are the ones who recruited me." -- Zach Kline, Jan 31, 2012

Your whole "Dilfer is a secret ally working for Tedford and Cal and his hint-hint nudge-nudge type of recruiting will more than make up for the loss of Tosh" theory is absolutely ludicrous, if not somehow hallucinogenic and inspired after scoring LSD on Telegraph.
