Direct TV doesn't seem to care; Comcast isn't "allowed" in the southern part of the Bay Area (even though they have a huge building here in Morgan Hill.) We are going to all the home games. I've callled and emailed Charter, (our current provider) Comcast, and Direct TV. This is totally infuriating. Any suggestions? GRRRRRRRRRRR!

With the role of unhelpful media companies played by GoldFinger his-self:

How about buying a slingbox for your Comcast-equipped Bear-fan relative or friend with the understanding that it's theirs to use and control except for Cal football games?

Admission: I've never owned or used a slingbox, but I looked over a colleague's shoulder when he was sneaking some entertainment - seemed pretty nifty.

The only thing I know about slingboxes goes back some years when they put a Cal-Cougs game in Pullman on live at the South end video board at CMS. We won big that day.

My experiences with the slingbox has been quite good. The only annoyance is that it's a point-to-point stream instead of a broadcast, so only one remote viewer can watch the stream at a time.

For anyone on the fence, you could always try one out from some place like Best Buy and return it later if you don't think it's worth it. I'm not advocating a shady 30-day rental scam, but they do advertise that you can try stuff and return it if you don't like it, no questions asked.

This isn't my area of expertise, but what keeps one from capturing that point-to-point stream and then sending it farther afield? Is there no gizmo or mechanism that would allow you to capture the point source digits of ones and zeros, repackage them and shoot them out to a wider internet sphere?

I'm screwed, I can't get Comcast and my only options are Directv (which I have), ATT Uverse or Dish!!

I was so excited when I heard about the Pac 12 network, but now it is turning into a nightmare!!

I felt all along that Directv would add it since they have a pretty strong sports offering, now I'm starting to lose hope!

I've looked into it, and it used to be easier when Slingbox used a standalone app on the desktop. It's gotten much harder. You can capture the screen and broadcast that out, but then you'd have to overlay audio on top, and the resolution isn't that good. Ultimately, using a TV tuner + justin.tv or ustream is much easier, but the resolution leaves a lot to be desired.

I'll be in socal, specifically Irvine, this weekend for a wedding ... any viewing parties in that area?!

OC CAA just cancelled theirs. Closest might be in West LA at Busby's.
