The setting at CU's Folsom Field rivals ours

Saw this on a Tweet about a time-lapse video on painting of the field. Boulder is a wonderful place. I wouldn't trade at all but I wouldn't mind one of our video screens at least being that big.

I respectfully disagree with the title.

Their stadium isn't nearly as cool (I may be biased), but that does look like another outstanding CFB setting.

I have to disagree as well. I never did like that big X-Games motorcycle jump ramp built behind the goalpost at one end of their stadium (the one that has "Colorado" plastered on it). Always seemed like an eyesore to me.

Just my opinion though.

It's definitely a nice setting... while there are bay views from CMS, that's only from the press box or the last row of seats, in the rest of the seats, at CMS you have to go to the west concourse. CU has mountain views from about 20k seats. So depends on what you want from a setting.

The physical stadium itself isn't anything all that special, all bench seats, but they are a tad wider and rows spaced a bit farther apart than CMS.

One random thing I noticed in that video is that they somehow manage to hang their FG nets on something other than two humongous ugly poles.

I think seeing the Flatirons and the Rockies is amazing. It's just a personal preference thing. I've been to Boulder a few times and I absolutely love it. The seats itself are nothing special but I love the way they incorporate building structures into the stadium itself. CMS is much better (despite not being fond of hearing about the sardine-like spacing and despite $321M still having port-a-potties) for sure, but I think Folsom Field is really nice.

It is a great setting. I definitely recommend making a trip to Boulder next time Cal plays there.

I agree with you KAB....they have beautiful surroundings with the mountains which are more visible to the fans then our bay. I actually like their stadium because for some reason, it seems more intimate. It is a different stadium then ours so it is a matter of personal preference. I love the area and for a semi-modern look with brick/stone buildings in the background, it kicks the crap out of that modern tinker toy known as the Furd Stadium...

Undoubtedly, the backdrop of the Flatirons is simply spectacular. That is really a magnificent shot. Marvelous setting. Reminds me a bit of the way BYU's Lavelle Edwards Stadium sits at the base of the Wasatch Range.

The beauty of the Boulder mountains notwithstanding, I still give the nod to California Memorial Stadium in that the arena itself is such a classic. Curved architectural lines, the arched facade, simplicity and elegance. CMS is probably one of the few remaining stadiums that has a "Roman Colosseum" feel to it.

Folsom Field is such a hodge-podge. That plastic-looking black skate-board ramp-like thingy behind one endzone is an eye sore, as is the chevron-shaped wedge leading into it. The stands on one side are just massive, and then on the other side the stands are backed by some unusual looking dorm-like edifice that could be the lovespawn of Wurster Hall and postwar Bratislava.

I evaluate the merits of the stadium architecture as well as its physical setting. Michie Stadium at West Point is Folsom-like in that the physical setting is marvelous, but the stadium itself lacks elegance.

FWIW...their stadium is a lot harder to walk up to when drunk than ours.

:acclaim:
They also don't have Top Dog.

Great setting from the inside, great campus, great scenery. They really do have it all over there.

The only thing that's kinda messed up is the area immediately surrounding the stadium. It's kind of cramped and jumbled, a little like what we'd have ended up with if we had built a new stadium at the Edwards track site.

I like Folsom Field. I mean, it's named after the most iconic prison ever (Johnny Cash forever ensured that) and your dinner runs wild on it before the game. Tough to beat.

I think we can all agree that there is a clear connection between beautiful sunset views and bad football. Rosebowl? Montlake?? Folsom??? *cough* Memorial*cough*

I have been to Cu's stadium three or four times including for CU-CSU game. It has a nice setting (much better than say LSJU's stadium's setting), but it's setting is nowhere as nice as the California Memorial Stadium with green hills ad mountains on one side and Bay, San Francisco and Golden Gate Bridge on the other side. If you don't believe me, on a clear day go to to the top of the Eastside of the Memorial and behold one of the best views in the world (from right to left: Marin County, Bay, Golden Gate Bridge, Pacific Ocean, SF skyline, Bay Bridge, Peninsula, more bay, San Mateo Bridge, Oakland skyline, how can you top that).

On the other hand, I have NEVER seen so many underage drunk people in one place as at the CU's stadium during CU-CSU game!!

$321 million and still with porta potties must be some kind of Berkeley joke.

Folsom is like the Carnegie hall of college football stadiums. It not the biggest nor most expensive nor most comfortable nor best catered. But it is intimate and loud an on a perfect fall day, a damn fine place to feel the raw emotion of college football.

Cal Memorial has its history and charm and beautiful campus setting, too. When you are inside, its just a symmetrical bowl with the view of a hillside. The stadium arcitecture is best appricied on the outside looking in, or with your back to the game looking west.

I betchu the Cal weight room and training facilities are better. But I sure didn't leave Cal Memorial with stadium envy. (Football team envy is another issue)

Go to a game at ASU or Univ. of Arizona... You'll see a new level of drunken debauchery.

ASU is unreal. Frat row adjacent to the stadium is a freaking hot mess. I've never seen so many hot girls throwing up on the street. Well, there was this one time in Isla Vista......

We need to get this kid a Bongo Burger when he's out here next eh, KAB? I had the bison burger in Denver when I last visited but nothing like the Bongo. I do like that they served Ralphie with sweet potato fires on the side and mountain spring water though.

Cuz CU got waxed in 2010 in Berkeley and the joint was cased starting on gameday minus two. By the way, you bears can learn a thing or two from Kansas when it comes to the campanile tour. The jayhawk tour was free and they let me play the bells.

And where are all the smoking hot blondes? Cal is more...um...nerdy than Boulder.

She comes to games sometimes.

We're not Kansas. We're Cal and you pay unless you're an alum-then you pay less. Also, you need claws (not hooves) to ring them bells...

BTW...go easy on Skidmark, he's one of the cool kids from Allbuffs and I have a vacation home there that I'd like to keep.

No doubt the blonde quotient goes way up on gameday. Bonus for the trophy wife factor.
Campus on a Friday morning...not so much.

Put me down for a Bongo Burger. Nothing wrong with that.

You'd really like it Skiddy...and a few dozen other places. I'll buy you drinks if you make it out to Cal next year. Our stadium is officially awesome these days btw and I've heard that grown men cried. Of course, it could have been because we lost to Nevada at home which we hadn't since 1903 but I like to think they saw what their hard earned paid for structurally.

You guys gonna tear up Sac State tomorrow or wet the bed like we did last week?

Post edit: A bongo burger is a lamb burger btw

Sheesh. Win or lose, you booze.

I'm gun shy at predicting the outcome against Sac. Yes. This is a new low in Buff humility.

We might crap the cradle. We might grow a pair. I need to see something (anything) positive on offense before I pound my chest and declare a victory.

I do predict that viewership will be down thanks to uncle Larry and his amazing Technicolor distribution negotiation team.

I've been to CU vs Nebraska. It's a nice stadium, but not as nice as Memorial. The stadium lays flat, feels spread out, and the asphalt slope in the end zone may look nice in pictures, but in person it is cold and ugly--a dead space like a track. Also, there was something slightly high school about the atmosphere. I know that sounds like a pretentious jab, but I can't think of how else to describe the vibe.

I've been to all stadiums in PAC 12 save WSU and would put it around #5.
