Our centers couldn't hit Bigs' hands

Not enough practice. It forces our QB to lose his vision on the initial movements of defense during the first split second after snap which is critical for a successful passing play.

yeah that is odd why that is still a problem..i don't recall that being such long standing problem prior to last season...doh!

at least the low snaps were consistent and predictable - unlike last year when the snaps were all over the place.....

Congrats Bears. This game went far better than I had anticipated. Players played their hearts out. We do, however, need a new center and kicker. Clearly they cost us.

Next week we'll kick $C's ass.

By the way, who was wearing Maynard's jersey today? That guy was good.

I just went outside to practice long snaps with my wife. I was perfect from 7 to 15 yards. I'm 6' 185", Cal grad '69.

Can't be any worse than what we now have.

Miss you, Georgio.

I liked one of the TV commentators saying Maynard should try out for shortstop on Cal's baseball team because he's so good a scooping up ground balls.

Apparently ... and that's a good point about Maynard losing critical decision information. I think low snaps could have contributed to the non-blindside sacks.

Terrible that a SENIOR is still pulling that crap. Seriously, how many low snaps were there....15? 20?

IN Schwenke's defense, he's been a guard his entire time at Cal, and only this season made the switch with the injury to Galas. Very disappointing nonetheless, screws up the entire rhythm for the QB; another issue for him to worry about and process.

After last year we needed a change. He was a guard when he was injured.

That might explain why he missed so many extra points last year........

Glad your snaps to the wife were spot on, but were you still able to block the eight year old that was blitzing? Sorry, I can't find the emoticons to indicate humor.
I've thought since last year, Maynard should be under center, as Boller and Rodgers were for every single snap of their careers, if I'm not mistaken. We never did long snaps until that OC from Northwestern came to Cal. The long snap seems to me to gave Maynard much more time to see the field, but also more time to stare down receivers and let his "happy feet" go to work. I didn't see the dancing so much today, and I think that might have been because of the bad snaps. With Maynard, the more time to see the field, the more time to dance.

Also, '69, if you get hurt the medical costs will be borne by Medicare which helps our cash strapped state save money.

That "dance" is what QBs are taught to do as proper footwork:

That shortstop line was absolutely hilarious and spot on. The majority of snaps were 1 hoppers. Boy I hope the center blocks well. Otherwise he's not doing much right. Maynard did a GREAT job of fielding them all and I think overall played a great game.

Yeah, I think he played great, much like Big Game last year. His stats would have been even better if not for the TD called back, the pass ruled out of bounds and some drops. I am sure his detractors can find things to criticize (he had the interception and at least one wild pass), but he was not the problem in this game or in any of our games so far. He showed a lot of heart coming back after being sandwiched and knocked out of the game on that (uncalled) late hit.

It also messes up the timing on the play. It's only a split-second difference, but that's all it takes. The center is releasing the ball too soon, that's why it's going low along the ground. This is a major problem that must be fixed immediately.

Schwenke was the first team center before Galas got hurt. They were already planning on making that switch.

I stand corrected: Schwenke was already the Center, Adcock replaced Galas at RG..who's incidentally is the backup Center.

ZM has been doing a great "shortstop" act since Day One vs. Fresno. Seriously. Maybe he's the only QB we have that can pick up the frequent bad Center Snaps from the ground with high consistency and that's one factor in why Tedford throws him out there. For example, Bridgford can be brutal with Bad Snaps.

I thought it couldn't get worse with Galas last year with his crappy snaps. However, Schwenke was just Raider long snapper bad.

Thanks for the videos. Watching them, it is apparent that those QB's do "the dance" rhythmically and at a slower rate, with the QB able to plant his feet in between steps at any point. When Zack dances, it is more of a frenzied tap dance that doesn't allow him to plant his feet.

When they go slow they are admonished "Quick feet, quick feet." The QBs that go faster are praised. It isn't a bad habit, it is something he has been taught to do.
