Interesting thread on OSU board re whether Cal won the coaching duel. My favorite exchange had one poster saying that OSU blew out Cal with the exception of the two BB runs and another poster replying that the South blew out the North with the exception of Gettysburg. LOL.
The consensus point seemed to be that Cal pulled out a lot of looks that OSU hadn't seen on film and OSU therefore had to adjust on the fly. The point reinforced the idea that Cal somehow emptied the playbook and focused all their summer prep on OSU while OSU treated Cal like a secondary priority. With due respect to OSU, I actually think that is exactly WRONG. While Cal probably focused more on OSU than OSU cared about Cal, I also think that SC, Furd, UCLA, leg-humpers, Oregon, etc. are much bigger priorities than OSU. Cal probably saved some looks during the Nevada (big mistake) and Utah games to pull out in Columbus, but I am willing to bet that OSU probably saved some stuff for Cal that it didn't run during its first two games.
The simple fact is that Cal came in more motivated and with a range of offensive options. OSU pulled out the win, the ultimate objective, but probably can't rest on the point that the game meant more to Cal. OSU jumped to a 20-7 lead at home. Cal didn't fade, but actually ramped up its effort and focus.
