We got a brand new stadium and some amazing talent (such as Bigelow, despite what Tedford thinks).
Who're available for a new HC job next year?

Kirby Smart Defensive Coordinator Alabama.

Disagree. Coach M bears some responsibility for the worst o-line in the conference, and apparently Gould determines which RB's play (or, in Bigelowe's case) who doesn't play.

I want to can the entire staff, but someone has to be an interim coach until the new coach takes over.

You are crazy. Cal is in no position to get someone like that. No way.....think a notch below him.

Why not he's never been a HC before?

If we want win, we need a home run.

Sandy B. owes it to the fans and the players to do something dramatic now - this should not be allowed to continue until the end of the season. Rick Neuheisel was just talking on the Pac12 network about how cruel it was for Tedford to make Zach Maynard stand in the pocket and throw when that's not his game.

Honestly, we can put some kid that excels at Madden on the sidelines to call plays and we would have a better chance at winning. I agree with the OP. Let's just get rid of the cancer first, and then use the rest of the year to select, interview, and negotiate with a first rate coach. That would be much better than letting Terdford completely destroy the team and then having limited time to find a replacement.

Anybody ever work for, or know, a weak manager ... guy who used to be good but couldn't keep up, needs to show employees who is in charge ... feeling surrounded by innovation, and unable to understand it let alone master it or be inventive ...

o Zach's few attributes are diminished ... 7 step drop, stay in pocket ... refusal to even try to develop, get experience for a backup
o Big on the bench for inexplicable reasons
o New hires (frosh WRs) getting frustrated, questioning themselves, questioning recruiting "promises", (envying Shaq for his decision ???)

I've seen many get locked into a technology and then get left behind, unable or unwilling to adapt and learn.
Tedford is in that mental, emotional trap but he's taking a program, players, his boss, his "customers" down with him.

His past success was outstanding ... but the past has passed. The present is ugly and the future even worse unless changes are made, sooner rather than later. His legacy is the new facilities and his record. Let him retire proudly and enjoy his success, passing the baton. Tedford is exhausted.
:tedford is no more.

Respectfully, there is no way a Kirby Smart or the coach from West Virginia ( saw a thread on TOS), is coming to Cal...Think about it, any program from the SEC looking for a coach ie Arkansas, is going to grab him. More importantly, they will pay way more $$$ than Cal can afford, or is willing to pay...would love to have, but let's be realistic.

MAC up and comer, or the like of the SJST coach...

Kirby Smart would live up to his surname if he waited to see if Ole Miss and Tennessee HC jobs will open up soon.

Personally, I think the clown wearing orange pants at Tennessee has a short leash.

Interestingly, the one scenario where I think Tedford's job would be in jeapordy next year would be one where we didn't win a Pac 12 game. WSU has improved enough to beat us. I don't know about Utah. It really boils down to what the people that can flip the bill think.

Did a little internet searching and it appears that a.) Smart really wants an HC job and will be one very soon b.) He currently makes between $750k-$1m

If things continue to go bad for Dooley, I can see TN going after their old OC, Duke's David Cutcliffe, trying to regain the magic they had with Fulmer while purging the 'outsider' problems of Kiffin and Dooley. Would be interesting to get some insight from our Rocky Top friends.

Arkansas will put on a full-court press for native son Charlie Strong.

Kentucky will dip into CUSA or, MWC for their next HC.

Freeze and Chizik will stay.

I say Cal has a realistic shot at Smart. Keep in mind, he's had numerous opportunities to leave so he's set himself up for a larger profile location. Big question is if these 'wealthy alumni' want to pony up the $$$ necessary to lure him out here.

You've just made the case for firing JT now and hiring Smart right now.

I disagree. Why would Kentucky "dip into CUSA or, MWC for their next HC" with Smart available?

I say Smart is a strong candidate, if not front-runner for any SEC job that opens up, especially Tennessee and Arkansas.

I also say that Smart would stay South then head West if he had a choice.

It is a little ironic for Coach Neuheisel to say that, given the QBs he trotted out for 4 years at UCLA.
