I just read the front page Tedford Sunday press conference. What parallel universe is he coaching from? His coments on why Sebastian didn't play in prior games was pathetic at best.

Good questions about Maynard (JT in denial of course), but no one asked about Bigelow not touching the ball?

...reminds me of the pains I get when Ann Coulter or Rush Limbaugh says anything. Just painful to my ears.

It's the same way he's dealing with Bigelow. Strange (and slow) rationale for a losing team. We should have been in the "kitchen sink" "try anything" mode right after the Nevada debacle.

I don't even get why Sebastian wasn't even on the 2 deep.

All last year and all this year, I've been watching him on special teams (kickoff coverage) and last year he did well. This year, you could almost guarantee that he would make the tackle (oftentimes a big tackle) or be right there when the guy is tackled.

I thought for sure Sebastian must have some coverage problems or glaring weaknesses that would prevent him from being on the 2 deep to counteract that he looks like a stud whenever he gets on the field (like 5 minutes a game).

I was shocked to see him on the field for the 1st or 2nd defensive play. I just started yelling, "#4 is playing! for the first time, let's watch what he does!!" Sure enough on his 1st play, he flashed, and then again and again and again and again.

What did he have, like 15 tackles? It's not like we needed a safety that could tackle.........JFC......

Ditto for me - except it's Al Sharpton and Rachael Maddow!

JT has a cliche for every circumstance. So, what will it be when he is fired? Any guesses?

Excuse me coach. One more question. Why is Cal getting worse each year , but getting better talent?? Is it because now the other schools have better coaches and football has passed you by. You cliches are getting old. I don't want to buy season tickets anymore.

I've seen some lukewarm and some cold.
Can someone remind me when Maynard was "real hot?"

Did you watch the 2011 Big Game or the OSU one?

Also, the last regular game of 2011. I'm sure the question was mostly rhetorical, of course.

Yes, he played well in both those losses. I just didn't think of his play as "really hot."

At this point, most of us would be ecstatic if he could play THAT well, win or lose. Then we would have less things to worry about.

Nail in coffin that he has officially "lost it".

Can anyone with time and video clips confirm that the LONGEST accurate throw Maynard has EVER made while at Cal has been about 20 to 30 yards? I don't mean the wounded duck his brother drew the O.Foul on (a ball underthrown by at least 5 yards). I don't mean the 70 YAC that his brother ran in game number 2. I mean a nice fly pattern out or a long ball over the middle that was in the air.

Tedford's unwillingness/inability to see that Zach can't do this (and I don't blame him - it is what it is) just speaks so much as to the state of his mind when it comes to football and ability to think about this rationally (or his utter disrepect for the fans/media that put $$$$ into his pocket - since he is, in the end, an entertainer).

And why being able to do this is radically important for this team is that we CAN NOT operate effectively if the safeties are allowed to cheat up to stop the run. They can cheat up if the Corners are not worried about getting between on the post. And the corners are not worried about the post because Zach's arm isn't accurate AT ALL over about 20-25 years.

This is it. Tedford should have been pulling all the stops for years. He seems to promise something new every off-season, kind of like Ben Braun promising we would be up-tempo. But Tedford never changes (why I don't know, is he scared, is he stubborn, is he dense) and like a guy paralyzed emotional and mentally, he stands there trying to fix his clothes while the Titanic sinks around him. Changes he could have made but has not tried (the most frustrating thing is that he hasn't even tried):

*more aggressive outlook on fourth down and short -- constantly allowing questionable kickers to decide games, kneeling down or allowing teams new life (Furd 2009, tOSU)

*opening up a real QB competition in Spring -- the focus is on talent and upside, not someone who has some experience and knows how to effectively break from the huddle (real possibility of an unspoken deal with Maynard - this one may have cost him his career)

*has not been imaginative or creative about Bigelow, the most explosive player on the field in all 5 games we've played in. In fact he's dug his heels in not unlike the Riley situation in 2007 to show people who's boss and that to prove he knows what he is doing. He's reduced his carries not played him more. Utterly mindboggling. Either just completely insane, stubborn or to be truthful - just plain idiotic. Sorry I had to go there because I think JT is a good man and a smart guy overall. His weird stubbornness really causes him to tend towards a low coaching IQ though esp. the last 5 years.

Try something JT! You are quickly becoming a lame duck coach and it is a matter of when not if at this point. What if you tried some things, maybe you could turn around yourself and the program? Nah, I believe you'd rather defend what you do. Good luck with that, Jeff.

According to his logic, I can also play for this team. I can make every throw on the field (with no defenders and stationary targets, a smaller nerf ball, etc).

Inconsistent? hmm, ZM played 13 games last year and 5 games this year; 18 in total. I'd say he's pretty consistent in that he is not very good...the only inconsistent game was tOSU where he played decently. Still, not a favorable stat.

Also mobility is why you keep him playing? I think he only ran twice last game on the read option, but can't get away from sacks in general or move in the pocket.

Well, looking at his backup, not sure AB could do any better. He has that perpetual "deer in the headlights" look and plays like it too. I think only Kline has that swagger, but I can see it dim every time I see him on the sideline. Poor guy.

Anyways, JT reminds me of George Lucas. Come out with a few good movies early on, then when everyone is calling you God, you believe the hype yourself and become a megalomaniac that think everything you do turns to gold. And then you make a craptastic prequel trilogy and blame the audience for not "getting it". But to hell with the audience! The movies are made for me! ie. JT's football program is his! No one touch it or complain! It is mine, and mine only! You are here only because I allow you to watch my games!
