JT,

Before the vitriol (and the season) get's out of hand, I wanted to send out a public thanks to you for your contributions to Cal football. Although I have no doubt that you will work your tail off through the very end of this season, the realist's among us already see what is increasingly becoming inevitable. This will probably be your last season as Cal's HC.

With that said, I'd like to thank you for taking the over the program at the time that you did and elevating it to a better state. I (among many) had hoped that you would progress into a legendary coach with a lifetime of success and tenure here and that is apparently not going to be the case. But I do acknowledge that you inherited a program with no expectations, subpar facilities and that was on probation for institutional control issues that you had no part of. None of these are problems anymore and I want to give credit where credit is due, you changed that. Even our fiercest rivals can't use the facilities argument against us, nor do they accuse us of rules violations. By all accounts, you played a critical role in getting our new facilities built and you run a clean program. There is no doubt in my mind that in 2001 you were the right coach for Cal at that time. It's unfortunate that may no longer be the case, but I will never look back at your initial hire as anything but the right man for the job at the right time (much like your former colleague on the basketball side, Ben Braun was the right man to navigate Cal through the post-Bozeman era).

I'll admit, I'm not looking forward to the rest of this season which is why I'm saying my thank-you's to you now. What is becoming readily apparent is that the program and you are no longer a good match and both will need to go their separate ways at year-end. I'm sure that you will wish your successor here the best of luck b/c that seems to be the kind of person that that you are and in turn, I'll be pulling for you in your next endeavor (as long as you aren't coaching against Cal).

In the late 80s/early 90s, Bruce Snyder was seeming to turn the program around. Then Keith Gilbertson and Tom Holmoe (broken up by a brief stint by Steve Marriucci) proceeded to run the program back into the ground. Enter Jeff Tedford. Within a year, the program was bowl bound again. Since then, we've been Pac-10 co-champions, and we have beautiful new facilities. Aaron Rogers, Marshawn Lynch, JJ Arrington, Jahvid Best, Justin Forsett, and numerous others wrote their names in Cal history during the Jeff Tedford era.

Coach Tedford, I bear you no ill-will, and I wish you all the best in your future endeavors. Having said that, it's time to move on.

The pragmatist in me says it's over. The writing is on the wall and it's clear.

That said, we owe Jeff Tedford some gratitude. He did what others could not. Hell we wouldn't even be having this conversation if he didn't turn things around like he did.

Not only do we need to thank Tedford but I believe we owe him some respect on how he exits. EF the mid-season firing. Let him ride out the season. Give him due respect.

It's plain as day to me: no Tedford = no winning = no new facilities = limited future. Can any of you guys imagine competing in the "new" Pac-12 environment with the old facilities?

For pete sake, CMS needed upgrading 50 years ago. Bruce Snyder bolted because of facilities and Bockrath, and that was 20 years ago. Tedford pulled Cal's butt out of the muck.

I also like to think there is a Cal way, the so called "do it right" that Sandy Barbour has mentioned. Winning is easy but ultimately you show your true self when you lose. If how you wins matter, than how you lose matters more.

Thank you Jeff Tedford for the best 5-6 years of Cal football that I've seen and for your part in the facilities.

Go Bears!

Thank you, Mr. Tedford. From what I've seen over 10 years now, you are a good man, a person I would trust and respectable. We're all sad that things have not gone the way we all would have liked. Thank you for your countless hours of work you put into our program.

Thank you Mr. Tedford. Well at least you're rich. Please close the door on the way out. Mr Petrino will be here soon and he isn't used to the cold.

Dear Cal and BearInsider posters.
Thanks for the heartfelt thank-you's. But most importantly, thanks for making me a multi millionaire.
P.S. I'm still not playing Bigelow. Bwahahaha !!!!!!!

Sorry but this is bizarre. Why don't we thank him at an appropriate time-like when he is leaving.

Oh, thank you for being the first to point out the obvious. No, seriously.

Yeah, seriously. It's like having a funeral for someone who isn't yet dead.

That said, everyone should take a step back and realize that we are in a really bizarre situation, one in which a coach who did amazing things for us (2004 + 2006) has also completely and utterly crapped out.

I would hope that everyone would realize that this firing is unlike 99% of college FB firings, in which the coach being fired didn't accomplish all those things while also being a class act and a tireless worker.

It's a weird anomaly, but what it all adds up to is......JT deserves to get fired, but also deserves a hand, not a middle finger, once the axe falls. (And when it happens, I'm guessing everyone will be so relieved, they'll give him that hand.)

Cal Football: Embrace the Weirdness.

I agree with GB54 probably no sooner then 2015, i think CAL needs to let him fullfill his contract, unless he chooses to resign....

So you guys don't believe the major donor that JT's gone...even a mid-season dump?

C'mon the guy is backing it up with $$$. How can he be wrong?

True...but we had a "thank you JT" thread just about 2 weeks ago. I thanked him for what he has done for Cal football then....don't see the need for multiple thank you threads....he'll get a huge send off, plaque, testimonials and lots of CASH....don't spend it all in one place. His inability or unwillingness to communicate with the fans and media leaves me less willing to communicate with him.

I too think its a bit early to write his obituary as I'm not completely convinced he'll be gone at the end of this year. I really, really hope he resigns though. Mostly to save us the trouble of firing him, but also because it would allow everyone a final chance to thank him without seeing him as a financial burden... the important people anyways.

How many thank you threads does this guy need? This needs to be moved to the "Thank You Coach Tedford" forum.

In the end, JT, maybe your only real crime was that gave all of us fans far more hope than we ever deserved to have.

Baloney.
Turnaround happens around all levels of football, to all kinds programs big and small, BCS conferences or not, traditionally good or not.
Look across the Bay.
Look at WSU with Mark Price. Look at Oregon with Belloti and now Chip Kelly. Look at Oregon State with Dennis Erickson. Some traditions there, huh.
