A few thoughts on being at CMS last night. Some mentioned in other threads, but some I haven't seen:

1. Pre-game. The Mic man gets on and announces stadium wide that we are the real University of California and that we aren't going to lose to a bunch of wannabes who stole our song, our colors and our mascot. Really pissed off the UCLA folks in attendance. Loved it. They seemed particularly douchy this time around, maybe because they thought they'd finally get a win at CMS. Ha!!!!!!

2. Crowd - mentioned by others, but we were there in force. Apparently they had to close the windows to the press box because it was so loud. Well done Bears.

3. Found out Tedford has a sense of humor - after all the (justified) bitching about Bigelow not getting enough touches, Tedford basically starts the game with an all Bigelow offensive series. I actually laughed when he got the ball the third time in a row.

4. More Bigelow - seeing him do his stuff is a thing of beauty. Can't get enough of it. Apparently on that TD reception, he was actually lined up in the wrong spot. Frankly I don't care if he runs on his hands with the ball held between his feet. Keep feeding him.

5. Maynard - what a game from him, particularly after the early pick (shades of last year). 25 of 30, 4 td's. Wow. Well done.

6. More Maynard - second series when the Bears we're on a 3rd and long mid field and Maynard keeps the ball and dives head first for the first down. I remember saying to my neighbor, whatever you think of his talents, he's putting it all out there.

7. Kam Jackson, where have you been all my life? What a game from this guy. Three picks. Terrific. Heard him say on the wrap-up show that he talked to Desean (both out of Calpoly) and DJax basically convinced him to come to Cal. Take that DJax haters.

8. Team huddle - seeing the team all get together on the sideline and jump up and down like that brought tears to my eyes. That's the passion we've been missing. Loved it.

9. Student section- really brought it. Completely packed, on their feet and shouting all game. Stayed after the game to celebrate. At one point after the game they pulled Bigelow up into the stands over the wall. It was awesome to see.

10. The return of MSG- line play wasn't perfect, but seemed much improved. Glad to have him back (know he played last week, but clearly wasn't his old self).

11. CJ - was pissed by the fumble (might not have been his fault. Couldn't really tell from my seats) but a great, great game from this kid. The ability to stay inbounds despite the Bruin giving him that push on the sideline for the last touchdown was beyond impressive. Well done Mr . Anderson.

Could go on, but this is getting long. CMS sparkled under the lights and it was a great night. Go Bears!

Yes to all that. It was electric. I was there, but I am watching it on TV this morning to see how it looked to the TV watchers. The stadium looks great and it really did look packed. Walking back to my car was so much fun for once. Go Bears!!!!!

Should add a few more.

12. Defensive line looked best all season. Tons of pressure. Obviously all the new blitz packages helped, but Kendrick Payne seemed to be everywhere.

13. Card stunt - don't know what it looked like to you on the East Side, but you guys looked great to those of us sitting in the West. Well done

Why not, it worked at tOSU.

JT finally changed his game plan using different backs, tight ends and new looks which the bruins were not prepared for. And finally we brought pressure on the QB. Should have been done 3 weeks ago

Here's a couple more:

14. Richard Rodgers' break out game. A game like this will do wonders for his confidence and in ZM's confidence in him.

15. This is going to sound like serious sunshine pumping, but the gift 1st quarter interception in our own territory has a silver lining to it. Let's face it, the fans were all thinking "here we go again," and it's likely that the thought entered the minds of a good many players. But ZM bounced back, played well, and we won. That is terrific not only for his own confidence but for the team's. They now have a data point to look back on when things don't go their way at the beginning of a game. In the face of a deficit, they can say to themselves, We can do this, and remember what it was like to actually do it.

That's a good point. Maynard does seem generally unflappable. That's not always a good thing, but last night it definitely wasand maybe it will help in some later games.

My wife, who hasn't missed a home game in 8 years, stayed home with our dog who had a recent surgery. She watched on tv.

I have never gotten so many angry texts in my life. I honestly didn't know she even knew how to text. Boy was she mad that after all the horrible football we've seen, this was the game she missed. You just never know.

Now THAT would be something I'd pay to see.

Finally we see evidence of someone being coached up! Remember it was just last week v. ASU when Zach was running for a first down, saw ASU defenders at the sticks and instead of diving for the first down, which he easily could have with the momentum from about 8 yards of running at full speed, he started to dance three yards shy of the sticks, allowing the defenders to wrap him up easily. Zach ran and dove for the first down twice last night. Way to go.

Good point on Zack. We also saw that in the tOSU game where he walked out of bounds for no apparent reason. Nice to see more evidence of the competitive fire I know he has.

He jogged out of bounds at $c but yes good to see him lowering his shoulder and balling.

Best thread in a while!
But sorry for tim90401 you "poor b-------"!
But, who woulda known that thing was gonna turn out so well...?

That question has an answer:

Answer: the players KNEW they had it in 'em and they WANTED to hit what they knew they could do.... Have to applaud their efforts for sure.

Hmmmm. Come to think of it you're right. Not sure why I thought that had also happened in the tOSU game. Maybe a different version of it did, but in any event don't want to harp on the negative. Point was he layed it out there several times against UCLA. Was great to see.

Did I not say that after his "SC stroll?" I was ridiculed. Looks like someone took him aside and said either you play like you mean it or you're out. This is your last chance. At least, I hope that's what he was told.

Actually, I would have preferred seeing someone else in there, but I have to bend the knee. ZM played well.

16. Watching all those UCLA fans sitting next to me in our row hang their heads for much of the game. They should sit with their own damn people!
