which was your fav:

Kam Jackson's 3 picks (the one at the end of the half was too easy)

Nick Forbes - 10 tackles and and fumble recovery (seemed to be everywhere)

Michael Lowe - 57 yard interception return (broke UCLA's will - wish he could have gone all the way)

Chris McCain - 2.5 TFLs and great harassment of Hundley

Sebastian will be a star some day but he needs to watch the personal fouls.
I thought Scarlett was strangely quiet - hope he is not hurt.

Having only seen the game live, I would go with Jackson. Three picks in one game is about as rare as 3 HR in baseball. He's a borderline rotation player (having just lost his job as nickel back) and turnovers are game-changing plays so he deserves kudos for making the play all three times. Unlike a WR catching a pass, DB doesn't get many chances to make an interception, so the pressure to make the play is heightened. He doesn't know if he'll ever get another chance. It was made all the more impressive by the fact that he did it at CB not FS. Safeties playing a deep zone have the advantage of seeing the ball leave the QB's hand and drawing a bead on it, whereas a CB often has his back to the ball until the last moment. Safeties also get more "easy" picks like balls tipped by underneath defenders or badly overthrown balls.

Now, not having seen a play back of the game is a major caveat. When you're watching live, you're only really playing attention to the guys on the ball - who's snapping it, throwing it, catching it, running it, tackling it.

Scarlett is playing with a broken hand.

McCain was definitely the difference-maker for the Cal defense. His range and size gave the UCLA D-line fits and his play definitely had an effect on the UCLA game plan.

Jackson deserves accolades for his 3 ints, but part of that was the fact that UCLA kept trying to challenge him with long passes that Hundley wasn't accurate on. The 3 ints were

1) Receiver ran a stop route and Hundley threw a fade. Jackson had no one around him.
2) Overthrow by Hundley
3) underthrow by Hundley.

The nice thing was that Jackson was playing good coverage and in position to make the plays.

As well as the defense played, it was a costly game with injuries to Anthony and Todd Barr.

Remember that Jackson also caused the pick that was run back 50 yards. He made a great play on the ball, stuck his hand in to break up the pass, and it sat up for an interception.

I LOVED how aggressive Jackson was. He tried to get right up on receivers. I would love to see Williams do that more. Hopefully Anthony is ok.

I hope to see Jackson a lot more.

This is like trying to divide up strings on a violin to find out which note you like best. They played beautiful music together. They were a team and each of those personal accomplishments could not have happened without the others.

I think you a quite correct on this. I believe Hundley has a very low yards per catch number, indicating that they having him throw short and safe. They seemed to ignore going to Franklin and had Hundley passing on the longer side. I felt this played right into our game, or against their game.

UCLA fans complain that Mora/the OC has Hundley either throw short or long, with no medium range passes.

McCain is a beast. Always flying to the ball. I think he's been the most consistent performer on D; just seems to really disrupt opposing offenses. I think the entire D feeds off of his energy.

Kam Jackson played great, but I think he was a beneficiary of being in the right place at the right time. But to his credit, he made the plays.

Kendrick Payne also played great. I think he had a sack, and definitely helped clog up the middle. Given that we were only playing with 2 down linemen, he did well to apply pressure on the ucla o-line and QB.

Without a doubt, it's McCain. I worry about him, because he's been hurt and unable to get up off the field on his own in a couple of games.

+1 Love your splendid and colorful analogy. When the team is playing well, it is difficult to pick out individual stars when everyone is contributing.

McCain's the leader of the D. He brought it early and often.
