At last check, he said he wanted to, but hadn't talked to the coaches about it yet.

Not sure Treggs has "sprinter's speed". His game is more quickness, sure hands and bold confidence combined with "pretty good" speed. Does anybody know if he even ran track in HS?

10.71 100M. He's plenty fast.

I don't think that's Pac-12 track quality speed.

deuce needs to continue to stay focused on his classwork and also build up his body for the increased pounding he will take next year

if he has extra time, mastering the playbook would be a good thing too

Maybe not but plenty fast on a football field.

.. catch up (of necessity) on too often pre-empted football season class work, instead of doing bonus sports just for fun.

Lest ncaa progress benchmarks slip behind.

LaMichael James ran the 100M in 10.62 and DAT 10.57. Treggs is pretty fast.

Thanks for the info. For some reason, during his protracted recruitment, I don't remember any talk of Treggs running track or his 100 m. time.

10.71, if it's an accurate assessment of his speed (as opposed to an anomaly) is indeed "plenty fast", though not "Jahvid fast".

I remember hearing his dad say something recently to the effect of "His game is like mine, but he's faster than I was."

We ought to go deep to him a couple of times a game, just to stretch out the defenses. Try it off of play action, or on "running downs", or just throw the ball out there early, to negate the pass rush.

Yep. Agree with stretching the field though Maynard doesn't really make those throws well and neither do we protect him long enough to do so.

10.71 for a high schooler is decent speed. I bet he could improve upon that significantly in college.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's Treggs. He's got good speed but appears to have a fantastic work ethic so I would imagine he welcomes all opportunities to get better. Probably focus on the 60m indoor sprint and focus on his explosion.

Also, for what little it's worth, seems like most of the football guys who run track in college do about what they did in high school. Shane's best 100m at Cal was 10.66 - I think that's close to what he ran in HS - and he only ran a handful of races. I think they mainly run track for the coaching and the practice, not to focus on racing.

I'm not surprised by the times staying relatively static for football players. They are focusing on adding bulk and strength to their frames in college unlike a track athlete who's really focusing physical development in other ways.

It's not fast enough for being competitive in the Pac12 (probably need 10.4 speed), but as a highschool time it's more than good enough for Cal's track team.

BB ran a 10.61 as a Freshman in High School, and a 10.57 wind-aided his soph year. Treggs ran a 10.71 wind-aided 100m and 10.81 legal 100m.

It won't win it but its competitive. I'm fairly sure I saw plenty of times in the high 10s/low 11s the last time someone posted results.

Just shows how spoiled we were with Best/Vereen

Great plan!

ZM may not have the pass-protection required to throw a deep ball from the pocket, but if we roll him out to his left (strong side) and let him take a shot deep 2-3 times a game (incomplete or not), we might get the Safety to back off and stay deep at times, creating more space for our other weapons. We might achieve the same with decoy-routes (not targeted) that go deep for the sake of going deep.

edit: go deep to Treggs, of course.

Yes, it's a lot easier to defend 15 yards of real estate than it is to defend 40. That said, I thought we did a remarkable job of getting guys open on short routes last Saturday, considering we weren't really making any attempts at stretching the defense.

Speedy can really run but likely more a 60 meter guy than a 100M sprinter. My guess is he would be NCAA competitive at 60.

Avery's not a sprinter. He's got plus quickness for a safety but not average top end speed.
