Is why Tedford should be fired, in a nutshell.

What an idiot.

The O-LINE got crushed.
In fact, I don't even think that Rigsbee even touched anyone.
Embarrassing.

Why run ISI at all? I mean, it's not like we don't have better options at running back. I guess Tedford just doesn't care that much about his job.

4th and inches - QB under center; QB sneak. Easy call

on the replay you see number 73 completely whiff on his block. his man then smothers Isi.

Come on, Phantom, did that call really surprise you? Honestly, sometimes I think that Tedford sabotages his own team so that he can get fired, take some time off and still collect all the extra millions due him. By the way, I'm still laughing about those "bandwagon whites" down at Stanfurd. 5decadefan

Isi up the center you can MAYBE defend. Isi on a read option 3-4 yards back out of a shotgun on 4th and 1 is just idiotic. Especially considering how the OL had played all game. Better to try a QB sneak or go outside completely. Why concede 3 yards on a handoff behind the line of scrimmage in a handoff. How does that make sense?

4th and 1 with Isi in the back field. The worse part was everyone in that stadium knew what was going to happen

Well, if you listen to Tedford it's Gould putting Isi in there at that time. I don't know the last time I have ever heard Gould talk right after a game. It sure would be nice to have Gould explain his substitutions this year.

And what about the 2nd or 3rd play of the third quarter. Maynard drops back to pass. There's no Stanford rusher within 5 yards of him There is no pass rush. Maynard is looking for his favorite target, Keenan Allen. He can't find him, so he looks for his second target, K. Allen, but can't find him either. Now he's down to his third choice, #21. Nope. So he leaves the pocket and runs over to the sideline where he asks the guys in red and white if they've seen his brother, #21....

I've been labelled a sunshine pumper, which is partly true, but even to me and those of the SP ilk this kind of play-calling is beyond baffling. It's frustrating and simply drives home the point that we need a change. Anyone can see it. Isi is a good back, but that was not a good call.

:acclaim:

That pretty much what Maynard brings you; basically his brother.

Wait...it's the position coaches for fault for putting players in before a play is called?

Dudes....it's the entire staffs responsibility to have the right personnel, right play, right time. Kind of like right medication, right dosage, right route in the medical world for drugs. The head guy is in charge and its his orders that action is based on.

Tyler Rigsbee is quite possibly the worst tacle ever at cal, at least since I started following cal fb close enough to know the olinemen.

What is Tedford errr Arroyo going to do, ask Maynard to complete a pass on 4th and short?

Run Bigs outside where you take advantage of speed.
Run CJA inside where you take advantage of power.
Run Stevens inside where you take advantage of a quick dive with misdirection and power.
Run CJA/Bigs behind Stevens where you take advantage of a blocker.
Run Maynard on a keeper

ANYTHING but Isi "terrible in short yardage situations" Sofele would have been better... Maynard passing would have been a ridiculously highly percentage play than Isi up the gut in short yardage situations... that is how bad Isi is.

The fact that the blew up the play had nothing to do with it... that is such a low percentage play (with that player) that there is absolutely zero reason to run it at all.

Don't forget that the Isi run was out of the SHOTGUN too.

Running Isi up the middle is why our red zone offense has been horrible for the last 2 years. It might be a standard play, but when it's run with Sofele it's also stupid.

My brother was screaming before that play not to give it to Sofele as that play had not worked all day. Needless to say he was upset after the black rubber pellets settled.

Gee, twice in one week I totally agree with Phantomfan.

Cal has been doing this all year...on down-and-shorts as well. Nobody had a problem with it. I think there is a good case to be made, given the way the game had gone, to sweep it outside, but a run up the middle on 3rd and 4th and short is pretty standard.

The thing is, today Stanfurd was getting insane penetration at the LOS. In those situations you should get the ball moving upfield ASAP instead of letting holes develop. I would have much rather preferred seeing the FB get the carry under those circumstances.
