We don't need overpaid ego maniacs for position coaches. They're the reason why we don't have a proper offensive coordinator. They're the reason why we lost Tosh. The O line sucks and the use of the RBs has been inexcusable.

They are good position coaches, but they are not worth the additional money, titles, and responsibilities that they demand.

We don't have an offensive coordinator. Repeat we don't have an offensive coordinator. An OC should decide things like RB substitution. The playcalling was terrible. Compare this game to 2008 when we had a real OC in Cignetti. I knew we lost this game on the first possession of the game when they lined up with Isi and ran him right into the teeth of the Furd defense.

Coach M's Been just about useless. But he's stuck with Marshall's recruits and a terrible QB to call plays for. Gould prolly stays but his RB rotation has been a real sore spot. The program just needs a culture change with the head coach plain and simple.

Up for the new coach to decide.
Things have deterioted into a mess under Tedford. You can't assess individual assistant coaches because of the failures at the top.

The call for goulds head is nonsense. His past work alone is reason alone to keep him around, but blaming him for the fact that Bigelow simply can't grasp tedford's over overcomplicated offense is madness. Biggs is a great talent with some glaring deficiencies. Personally I think they need to find a way to get him and cj in the backfield on every play. Keep the def honest about where your going with the ball on any given down.

Give him the ball and tell him to run to the outside, 7-10 times a game. That's all he needs to do.

If the head coach allows a position coach to play Sofele and bench Bigelow, then the head coach needs to go.

I never understood why Tedford doesn't just call ALL the plays. I never understood him giving it up years ago, taking it over again (partly), and then giving it up again...to Arroyo? You're the head coach who got the job and brought the program to new heights on the basis of your offensive acumen. Call the plays. All of them.

As I mentioned in the other post, JT should demote himself to QB coach; it seems like that is all he cares about.

I don't think even Tedford is dumb enough to hire Jeff Tedford as a qb coach.

Gould has had a crappy year as well!!! People refer to his body of work. Please!!! That does nothing for the team this game and this year. If Bigelow is having trouble with the offense, spend extra time with him and get him up to speed!!!!!!! He is your responsibility. Playing an ineffective Isi so much while Bigelow is showing that his burst can get something to happen is terrible coaching. How did playing it safe with Isi work out, Gould?

Now that the season is pretty much lost, will Gould get the future(Bigelow and Lasco) experience or will he stick with his favorite and safe guy, Isi? Gould's decision on playing time from this point forward will show how much he has the future of the program in mind.

Nonsense......RB's need even better blocking that the QB. They need to at least have an initial hole to get to....a QB can scramble around but if there is no initial hole or the outside is packed cause we didn't get to the 2nd level, the RB has no where to go...they do just fine when we play lesser teams and we open holes... Gould is probably are most competent coach...oh, and the secondary coach hasn't done that bad besides the missed assignments at times.

Find me an OL or RB coach who gets paid more than the OC. We don't have an OC because of those guys.

Isn't it a given that if/when Cal gets a new coach, he's likely going to clean house and assemble his own staff?

The pay scale for our OL and RB coaches are in the bottom third in the league. Coupled with our near highest cost of living (Bay Area expenses) makes it nearly impossible to lure away a proven top flight assistant coach.

He's a good man, so is Tedford. His favoritism toward Isi and inability to recognize Bigelow's talent and adequately coach him up is inexcusable. Who is the best RB coach in the country? Nobody knows and nobody cares because a RB coach is insignificant in the big picture. I'm okay with Gould staying only if he's demoted to just a RB position coach with no added power, title, or money.

So what? There would be no shortage of men willing to fill those roles. No need to make them coordinators and give them more power then their talents warrant.

I think Bigelow has earned more carries as well, but let's not forget Big's fumble was his own mistake entirely. He should not have coughed that up, and in this case, it probably merited some time on the pine.

Overpaid?

If we have a head coaching change, all the assistant and position coaches may be paid the same if not more than the current ones.

Genyk should've been gone long ago.

But this talk of releasing Gould, the coach that has put more RBs in the NFL than any other team in the Pac... lol wow. The coach that gave us Echemandu, Arrington, Lynch, Forsett, Best, Vereen.

This board is out of control.. or there is some serious trolling going on here.

Lynch, Best, and Vereen would have made it to the NFL with me or Drunkoski as the RB coach.

Yes, except one AC is usually kept in order to help with the transition. All Acs understand and accept that this is part of the business.

There have been rumors that Gould is not at his best from a physical standpoint. He may not be the one to keep, nor may he want to be kept.

Unless we win only one more or no more games, this is mute. We will have JT for at least next year.

Of the current staff this year, I'm most impressed with Wes Chandler. Our WR unit is performing well (limited only by the QB who needs to do a better job of getting them the ball). Yes, he benefits from talent, including two great freshman, but in the past we've seen talented WRs (including some who are currently playing in the NFL) endure a year of adjustment problems before performing well.
