I'm sick of hearing about The Play

I was there in '82. And it truly was the most incredible etc finish in the history of college football.

But when we bring it up over and over and over again, while we're getting our asses kicked, we just look pathetic. We look like someone who's poring over an old scrapbook because the present day is so miserable.

So I propose that any year in which we lose the Big Game, we implement a moratorium on The Play. We don't sell t-shirts, we don't run the video on a loop in the ASUC store, and we especially don't show the clip at the stadium. When we win the BG then we can bring it back.

It looks like that because that's the reality. Of course, they didn't know the day would be so miserable a day when they planned it. And besides, we happened to run into Joe Kapp several times during the day (out in front of CMS, near our seats, and when he was headed over for the 4th Qtr ceremony). He was very friendly and talkative with us and that turned out to be the highlight of the day (in addition to chatting with the BBall players). I'd say keep doing it. What else do we have right now?

It was the 30th anniversary. If we wait until the 50th some of the participants and most of the spectators will not be available.

Let me put it this way: it irks Stanford more than you.

Every 10 years is appropriate. In years ending with 4, 6, 8, and 0 our focus should be on the history, pagentry, tradition, etc. of one of the oldest and greatest rivalries in all of Collegiate sports.

I propose that instead we start celebrating the 2003 USC game every year.

I know your post was in jest, but for several years that win WAS held up as an example of the progress that Cal had made. It's sad to think that game was almost 10 years ago.

The counterpoint was painful. And when people start Nobel laureate chants at a football game you know the towel has been thrown

The Play is becoming for us who were there what the last Rose Bowl was for Cal fans who were THERE--something that means almost nothing to anyone at Cal today.

Yesterday was really a bummer. Of course I thought we would lose, but when we went for the field goal, and the losing became a certainty, I thought about walking out of the stadium, going to Top Dog, and driving home. I stayed through the third quarter, really hating what I was watching. A field goal. One field goal. JT is all about 1st and goal and attempting field goals.

This and the 2003 USC lockerroom video need to be shelved.

When we win, we can use them again.

It screams of "remember that time we won? We don't do that anymore."

Yes -- but it highlights that we're still good in what really matters....

Irks is the nice way of putting it. The Play pisses off many Furds to no end. It took Elway 25 years before he could talk about and not cry. I don't care what any disgruntled Bear fan says about The Play the day after a beat down but pissing off Donkey Face Elway for 25 year is not just a good thing but a GREAT thing.

Think about it for a second, you can instantly make Furd pissed off or roll over in submission because they simply do not have an answer or retort.

Agree that for an anniversary it's a fair thing, it just happens to fall on a crappy BG for the Bears.

They really don't promote The Play that much, just it was the 30th anniversary

There was also The Play reunion. If all those guys are going to show up, you have to show it a few times.
