How hard is it to plan for us ? I'm so sick of first downs - if Isi is in game, it's a handoff to him damn near every first down in first three quarters. 3rd and long we have either a draw or bubble screen. We are predictable beyond belief
1st down, run up the middle. 2nd down and 5 or shorter, run up the middle. 2nd down and 6 or longer, screen or sack. 3rd and 5 or less, QB waits for the Allen to get open so he can break the record. 3rd and 6 or longer, draw. PUNT!!! Unless you have a 3rd Round Draft pick...RUGBY PUNT!!!
Our running game got shut down yesterday because Furd's DL is very good, top 10, and they crushed us. Force ZM into mistakes, shut down the run game. You can't run if the OL doesn't open holes and you can't throw if your QB doesn't have time.
This isn't just about yesterday, it's every game. Yes, our line was simply overpowered by Stanford and that makes everything difficult. But playcalling week after week that even I can predict makes it easier for any defense to stop us.
Defensing us has to be one of the easiest tasks for opposing coaches. We have a QB who can't hit an open receiver even with adequate protection, and we have an O-line that can't open holes for the running backs. Plus on first down we almost always run Isi (or Anderson or Bigelow) between the tackles. That leaves two downs for a wildly inaccurate QB to complete a pass, the odds of which are less than 50%.
