Good point, because even with a 9 run lead and 2 outs in the ninth, I was nervous. The Giants have a way of making any game a nail biter. But in the end, it's... :woohoo

That's funny from a Giants fan because before '10, there was 50 years of Giant hattin going on.

Any way, can't fault "these" Giants for Melky but I can blame MLB and Giants management for yet another roider. Of course Barry was a HUGE (literally) roider. Just like the Olympics, if a juicer is found on a team, the whole teams goes down. It's the only way to clean up PED abuse. But that's another issue. Melky still cheated and gave the Giants an edge.

The asterisk by Dodger fans is pathetic. After Melky was suspended the Giants went 6-3 against the Dodgers and their $260 mil baggage. So what happened Dodger fans? I also haven't seen Melky play against the Reds and Cards this post season. Giants are just better than the Dodgers this year. Oh, and the Giants also have the most NL Pennants. Ever.

I'm sure you enjoyed Manny when he was injecting himself with female hormones. That and the fact that the Dodgers choked away the pennant that year they got Manny.

1) The Giants would've won the division with or without Melky that's the luxary of having a huge lead 2) Melky didn't play an inning in the postseason and they still won the pennant.

If a Dodgers Fan says anything about steroids...

I don't know that there is any team in any position to talk about steroids, except for the ones that basically sucked for the last 15 years (so maybe the Royals and the Pirates). You pretty much have to assume that every team had a star player or two who was juicing.

Well, I happened to run into Brandon Crawford at a restaurant tonight in Walnut Creek. Told him "Nice catch last night!" and otherwise left him alone. He was out with his wife and (I think) in-laws, and kind of looked like a 90s grunge-rock singer (wearing a flannel shirt and backwards cap).

He also looked bigger and more built than he does on TV (this seems to be common with pro athletes).

Just like the way media hyped up Cliff Lee and his postseason dominance, same idiots are going nuts over Verlander.

Will the Giants end up going 2-0 against Verlander just like they did against Cliff Lee back in 2010 on their way to the championship?

Verlander is the real deal. He is not unbeatable however. We need the following to beat him tonight.

1) Zito has got to continue to pitch as consistently well as he has this postseason.
2) We must get to Verlander early. If we don't it will be a long night.
3) Giants must remain steller on defense.
4) Posey and Pence must start to hit this series.
5) We need more of that luck that we've had this whole postseason.

Go Giants!

Verlander is the defending AL MVP and Cy Young award winner. Cliff Lee is a guy who had a nice postseason pitching run that was a lot better than his regular season results. Big difference.

Didn't Cliff Lee also win Cy Young like in 2008 or 2009? Plus, he was undefeated in postseason with ridiculous ERA prior to his matchup against the Giants. He was a big-time performer, just like Verlander this year.

I don't see a "big difference" at all.

It's just funny that people automatically chalk two games up to one team because of the starting pitcher. This is baseball -- weird things happen.

Though yes, Verlander has been more dominant over the last couple of seasons than Cliff Lee was in 2010 (Lee in 2008 was comparable though).

Verlander has been as dominant a pitcher as I've seen in my lifetime. Tonight's game should be interesting...

What? You didn't see Orel Hersheiser going crazy in 1988? 50-something scoreless inning streak. He carried the team to the championship.

You're welcome, doyer fans.

LOL. Yes, I remember. He was great that year. Verlander's last couple of years are up there with the best.

Yeah, in 2008. Two years prior. Which is why you don't see any Giants fans talking about how Lincecum is going to dominate Detroit. He has Cy Youngs in 2008 and 2009, but the present is rather more applicable.

Now there is a big difference comparing Lincecum 2012 to Lee 2010.

Lee was still a big-time pitcher in 2010, a real workhorse, throwing 7 complete games and finishing the year with 10/1 K/BB ratio and an ERA barely over 3. (You made me look up Lee's stat! lol) That verses Lincecum who finished with an ERA over 5? Not a fair comparison.

I'm just saying Lee back in 2010 received similar hype to what Verlander is getting this year. Media gave the Giants no chance against Lee, heck even against Halliday and Phillies' vaunted offense.

BTW, are you an A's fan? Doyer fan?

Edit: Lee's 2010 postseason stat leading up to the Fall Classic was ridiculous with an ERA under 1.00 and 3-0 record in ALDS and ALCS. Again, very similar to Verlander in 2012 postseason so far.

Exactly, thus there is more faith in Zito than Lincecum at this point. Never thought I'd ever say that in my lifetime.

Of course he was. But he wasn't nearly as dominant as Verlander was this year.

It was to try to impress on you the point that the current season is more relevant than the season(s) before.

It's not hype in Verlander's case. He's the best pitcher in baseball right now. Lee wasn't.

Giants fan. I just don't feel I have to misrepresent reality to make me feel better about my team.

The postseason is a very small sample size - much smaller than one full regular season. If Verlander's postseason was all he had done that was excellent up to this point, I would be more optimistic about the Giants' chances tonight. But he's been excellent for two years in a row and that merits respect. It also has nothing to do with Cliff Lee, no matter how many Giants fans say it does.

Great post.
