Who is this broad? She's the reason why we didn't win the natty in 2005.

While not ruling out an anti-athlete Professor at Cal, it could have been a Professor at Butte JC.

At the JC level, saying you want to play in the NFL really does look like Dreamland and the Prof may have been brutally frank and honest at the time.

That said, it just as well could have been somebody at Cal trying to crush AR's dream.

but really, who says you aren't going to make it through a JC? This had to happen at Cal with an educator telling a student that they aren't going to make it through college. I love teachers like this. Had many and was disgusted with them even as a kid when they said this to the less than stellar students. Basically, these types of teachers are a-holes and are in the wrong profession.

It happened in Food Appreciation class. We have a food appreciation class?!?!?

You can listen to the interview here. It comes in the last 10 minutes.

Anybody on the board take a class in this department and have a bitchy prof that fits the description?

And why would a Food Appreciation Prof have such an attitude???

So at SC a few years, the teachers actually took the student's tests for them, and there was no probation.

At CAl, teachers go out of their way to fail football players - no wonder our APR sucks. Rodgers should name names, so the press can go harrass that professor - she is not worthy of the name.

And on a more serious note, there's got to be a happy medium between what USC (and all the other powerhouses do) and what happens at Cal. Sure, the Cal faculty deserve some blame for being egotistical and overly aggressive, but they may be "overcompensating" in the other direction in response to the equally F'd up situation at USC.

It's just ridiculous that neither USC nor Cal seem able to even come close to a middle ground where the balance of power between faculty and athletes is fair.

Are you talking about condom players taking some spanish class at a local jc? I remember that bullsh!t.

Also, we were placed in probation for academic fraud a while back.

A lot of kids are failing because they don't do what's necessary to pass the damn classes. Maybe Tedford's academic support infrastructure has tanked in recent years, just like his coaching.

Tedford just doesn't pay attention to little things like he used to. Majority of blame should go to Tedford instead of teachers/profs for our sh!tty APR.

For criminy sakes, this is a food appreciation professor? Who gets a PhD in Food Appreciation, someone who doesn't have the brains to get a degree in Biology or even Food Technology?

Teachers who tell students they are going to fail should get a new career.
Absolutely disgusting attitude and approach by this "professor". People like her should not be teaching at a university like Cal.

was a project where they didn't cite something correctly. with all the tutoring staff available to athletes it still seems absurd.

edit: sure the F on the re-write is probably the prof being a bitch trying to "impart wisdom" but my point still stands I think...

Aaron probably cited La Burrita and the Prof was a Gordo's fan...

The late Prof. William Slotman (of Habsberg Monarchy fame) told me in McNally's Pub in 1975 that he had just given a certain Cal football player an "F for Falcons" on a history paper in honor of the team that had just drafted him and because he knew he did not write the paper.

You can't blame Tedford. My son had several professors just like that when he played. With Tedford's help and encouragement he graduated in 4 years in spite of them. GO BEARS!!!

This can't be a Cal professor, right?
Because I think we're among the top 10 schools in number of alumni playing in the NFL. And about a dozen players each year at least get a taste of the NFL. That's a much better odd than seniors from many high schools in CA applying to Cal.

ok, so who here is going to volunteer to do the legwork to see who this professor was (for the record i have my finger on my nose). i doubt it would be that hard to see who the food appreciation professor was in 2003-2004.

Ha! He also told that story to a group I was in that he was speaking to!

For you young'ns, that student in the story is the only Cal player to have been chosen #1 overall in the NFL draft.

I love Aaron Rodgers.

But I have enough experience to know that you should take the claims of students who fail with a grain of salt. Something doesn't sound right here. Without knowing her side of the story, I am reserving judgment. I have had to fail a few students and it is never fun. I got a call from a parent once whose kid told him a lot of crazy stories about what I supposedly told her along the way.

@Cal for sure, per link above:

[quote=]
Back to this food appreciation class. So I got an F on this project, I didn't cite correctly, I asked to re-write it, and wasn't able to re-write it. They wouldn't accept my paper. So I asked my breakout group [instructor], "How come I wasn't able to re-write it?" She couldn't give me an answer.
We started [football practice] at 2pm at Cal. The office hours for one of the teachers [also] started at 2. So I told my coach I was gonna be late, that I was gonna go down and talk to this teacher at Cal at her office hours.
I went in there and she was ready for me.

Do you know of any classes that are known as 'food appreciation' AB? Would guess that it's in the nutritional science dep't, and it's also likely the 'professor' was really an 'instructor', but who knows.

Agreed, but Aaron' Rodgers isn't your average guy. He brought this story up as a clear "chip on my shoulder" moment. Why would a guy known for his high moral character randomly make up this story? Was he not an academic all American at cal?

Is it more likely that one of our anti-athlete professors had a "moment" or that Aaron Rodgers is lying through his teeth? If you listen to the part of the interview where he recalls the professor laughing in his face, it seems too genuine to be a lie.

I have no idea. But I also have no idea why a professor would fail a student unless the citation problem was in fact plagiarism. Something just doesn't compute. The kid who I failed might be a decent people outside of my class. But that doesn't mean that she didn't lie about the circumstances.

I am also not aware of any "food appreciation" class at Cal. NutriSci 10 maybe?

This...

Please moderators post this at the top of the board as a reminder to those of us who continue to insist on denying that the decades and decades of poor football performance has little or nothing to do with the larger environment/culture on campus. That any "good" coach can win here. It ain't the same as other places. It's easier at football friendly schools and private schools and especially at football friendly private schools....

Seriously I smell some baloney, just not sure where it's coming from. For one, to get an F you have to actually try and do absolutely nothing to get an F. I'm not bragging but I've blown off classes at Cal, never showed to class, never read the assignment but did the midterm and final and passed.
