More evidence that not only if Tedford not doing it... he sure as hell is not doing it "the right way."

I remember when reports started coming out showing Cal was doing a garbage job in the "student" part, and how some people tried to spin it with excuses...


It is troubling because ANY idication that things are going wrong in the classroom should bring the TOUGHEST questions from people with access, not the spin about how these are abborations.

Uh, it's Jon Wilner. His beat is Bay Area college sports. He's been covering Cal for at least since Marshawn was on our team.

Also, Wilner works for Bay Area News Group, so basically his coverage is for the San Jose Mercury News, Oakland Tribune and Contra Costa Times.

So, when the national and local media reports that Cal is at the bottom and use the same metric to measure everyone, and it happens year after year... what is that?

I would think you would be more outraged about this, given that you put a high value on academics at Cal... instead you give it a pass. Amazing.

Are you kidding me? 'succumb to the garbage'? Are you channeling your inner flourbear? What about reporting Cal grad rates is garbage?

Also, given the chronicle's past history bashing Cal athletics, they would surely love to have 'broken' this story... but their writers are typically too lazy and stupid to find this information... I'm sure they'll parrot it in a few days time though.

Did you miss the next post/link to ESPN showing Cal 11th out of 12 schools?

Positive spin, this allow Cal to bring in the 'fired for cause' argument and avoid payment on the rest of the contract?

this guy is either Amy or Drunkoski trying to make the pumpers look stupid.

Tedford has become an embarrassment. I will be shocked if he is still coaching after this year. I know there may be many factors for the low number, but I assume those factors exist at other schools as well. I seem to recall that the academic failures were the final straw for Braun as well.

So am I really the only one here who finds the timing and predilection of this article questionable?

You're probably right. He's the same dude who said Cal faculty needs to be told to let football players skate in their classes because being a full time athlete and a student at Cal is too hard.

Yep.

this issue has been around for awhile. at first it was lag from holmoe as the excuse, then the excuse was a couple of recruiting classes had guys with injuries who fell by the wayside.
obviously we can not continue to sweep poor performance on the field and in the classroom to continue

Ok, I looked and saw last year it was released same date, Oct 25th. I thought it was released later. My bad. Still seems strange to me that this would come out this week. I guess it is coincidence.

If the metrics used are the same for all schools, there is no excuse. Certainly not when it happens year after year.

EVERY school send players early, has injuries, has idiots... SEVERAL have tough academics (lets not pretended Cal does not offer candy ass classes and programs to athletes like every school).

There is no excuse for this. Cal may not need to be at the top, but being at the bottom is unacceptable.
