Funny you don't see those who defended Tedford's incompetence...

Turning the tide on this board had nothing to do with you convincing anyone. It had to do with the play on the field. And even the great majority of us on this board have nothing to do with the actual decision makers and no one cares what any of us think (except if we stop coming to games and buying tickets).

You sound as if you think all your hard work has finally paid off and Tedford will be fired because of all your convincing.

True. Good one.

I don't recall a significant number of negabears calling pumpers fake fans, but the pumpers did that to negabears on many occasions, so it's not equal on both sides.

And yes, being right MATTERS. With all the nit-picking that happens on this board on details that are not essential to the main point of a person's post, you can't just go back and say "Well it doesn't matter who was right."

You did not read my post very closely.

I did, but disagreed with it. It didn't help that you false equated the two sides.

I did not false equate both sides. I specifically said that calling people fake fans is silly and childish. I also said that stupid things were said on BOTH sides and that neither was excusable. You are choosing to fixate on the "Fake Fans" idea.

Read it again. I didn't say we turned the momentum, the moment turned. It's just really hard to argue with idiots who think otherwise day after day for years.

If you really believe that those who don't agree with you or misunderstood your post are "idiots", I'd say that you should consider why no one would want to admit to you that they were wrong.

Doesn't everyone think this discussion is getting a little old? Let's face it, there is no way (and probably for good reason) that Jeff Tedford was going to be shown the door prior to having one full season in the new house with the new training facilities. Unfortunately (and I dare say we all agree with this point) performance of the team has continued to deteriorate and it is hard to imagine this turning around. So sadly it seems time for Cal to move in a different direction and thank Tedford for his efforts and find a new HC. Jeff Tedford is a decent man and despite some of the crap spewed here occasionally that he doesn't care or try, he gave Cal football everything he could. Who knows, he may succeed somewhere else but it is time for Cal to revitalize the program and find new energy and innovation. We have the raw materials here; great faciltiies (thanks Jeff), grreat setting in the Bay Area, great players, a great academic institution, everthing that a high school player could want. I look forward to the future of Cal football.

I give you a lot of credit for writing that. And yes, it is tough to be civil when you are arguing what to you seems obvious. I just know that as difficult as it can be sometimes, a little bit of deference towards a fellow Cal fan can go a long way. Furdies, Toejams and Fuskies? Screw them. Be kind towards your family though, even the cousins that you don't like.

You means those people who take your money whether you make money or not and sell their company's products to you and take a commission on it? Sometimes, good advice comes from sources that aren't that obvious.

With regard to Tedford's job performance, different people have different standards of "proof" that he might not be the right man for the job. Some fans were grumbling a long time ago that Tedford should go, but their evidence was scant and insufficient for others.

If they are convinced now, shouldn't you be happy that your position has more support, rather than patting yourself on the back for setting the failure bar so low?

No... less than 50% of teams are losers

Right now there are 67 teams with winning records.

there are not 134 teams in FBS.

Only 42% of teams are losers right now.

Right now 71.7% of teams have a better record than Cal.

Yup.

Teams that have as bad or worse records (we get two of them in the next two weeks); in order of their suck.

I would not call it funny.

I was hoping they were right. I hate when my negativity turns out to be correct.

What is troubling for Sandy is that if the INTERNET cannot produce people willing to defend him, even as trolls, in larger numbers than BobbyG, things are VERY bad for the program.

People like to pretend that forums like this are not representative of the fan base. I disagree. They are a very good way to see the general feeling of the fan base. It is pure unfiltered opinion. It is almost 100% anonymous so people are free to say whatever they are REALLY thinking, without censoring to avoid risking breaking relationships. You will NEVER see someone go off on Sandy in person, regardless of how they real feel, for example.

You have to understand though, that the pumpers will over shadow the negas after wins, and then it will flip after losses. When we are doing "OK" negas will be more vocal.

When things really get bad, the pumpers stop posting, apathy sets in, and if you see that on the INTERNET, it is only a short time before it shows in the stands. Average fans care less than the people who used to post and now dont have the desire to bother defending.

/rant

Or maybe normal people, in increasing numbers, don't choose to deal with the preponderance of tools who "rant" here now?

I was kinda thinking the same. Nothing against Tommie in particular. I find it amazing that some here post things to others when they have absolutely no idea what that persons position or station is in life. I mean, when we go to alumni events we meet all types of normal to extraordinary people that went to Cal, right? Somehow, on a sports board, that is forgotten sometimes. I have to remind myself of it constantly.

Honestly, it depends on the ex-pumper. A lot of sunshine pumpers accused (explicitly or implicitly) negabears of not being real fans, or not supporting the team. In fact, some do that to this day. Those pumpers need to eat humble pie.

The pumpers who simply pumped their sunshine and didn't make discouraging comments to negabears or question the validity of their posts are A-okay in my book.

Let's see now. Internet message board + anonymity + college sports fans = trolls. Yep, that sure is hard to believe.

It takes a special kind of person to be so sure of one's own opinion that they have to constantly post negative things about people they don't know personally. Even more "special" is the person who needs frequent congratulations to boost their own ego.

Some of us prefer to say something positive or say nothing at all. When there isn't much positive to say, it isn't very fun to post.

And finally, when one's posts are met by such intense vitriol for trying to be positive, I can understand why some posters fall back. Just like when Cal wins a game we don't hear from people who get such joy out of being negative. And yes, no matter how you color it, that's really how most people on here come off.

I agree with californication all the way. All you nega bears want is for Tedford to be fired win lose or draw. I get sick of comming to this forum and reading nothing but negativity. AS i said in a previous post i think JT deserves a chance to fulfill his contract, if he can't turn it around by that time then let him go. So i guess that makes me one of the few pumpers that will defend JT....

You are hilarious. What a lazy assumption you just made. As another poster pointed out (the obvious), this is a Cal board and several people on this board are wealthy and have immediate connections to extremely intelligent and capable wealth managers. You are a walking talking contradiction by calling others idiots while making lazy assumptions and bizaire conclusions youself. This is exactly why you should relax and stop sporting this air of superiority that is quite unbecoming of you.

Really? If they did, that would be hilarious. What do you think is more likely on anonymous sports message boards: (i) non-fans claiming to be fans to diss a team or its players; or (ii) non-fans claiming to be fans to falsely support a team or its players.

Regardless of someone's station in life, we all deserve the same measure of respect. We are all Cal fans who want to see the players reach their potential. Everyone except Amy that is. The poor performance over the past few years has us fighting with each other.

So, Tommy, sorry about the "Hail Timmy" crack. Can I buy you a beer before the Washington game ?

Bingo. Some people thought he should be fired for the 2007 season alone, despite the record of success he'd amassed up to that point. Some people called for his firing after a 2008 season in which we wen't 9-4 and were probably among the Top 25 teams in the country. Even if it's now clear that JT needs to go, I will not apologize for still supporting the man at that time -- back then it was absolutely NOT obvious that we would have sunk to this level by now. I always said that IF he started posting numerous bad seasons I would stop supporting him as head coach, and that day has come.

In the case I was not clear; when people, who have in the past found the effort to defend the coach worthwhile, decide it is no longer worthwhile, that apathy says a lot about the state of the program.

I do find it amusing that you post that people who do not share your opinion are "tools." I am not sure if your intent was to align yourself with the OP, or you are satirizing the OP.
