We should have seen this coming when JT brought ayoob in as the next great QB.

At least Joe was a model citizen at Cal. I'll take Ayoob over Maynard any day.

until the end when Steve Levy came in and won the last two games. There have been signs of JT's current issues since years ago,

Mildly amusing, but a reach nonetheless. Ayoob was the no.1 JUCO QB in the country.

Maynard was recruited by Temple and Buffalo.

Yes, and kept him in the entire year until the end when Steve Levy came in and won the last two games. There have been signs of JT's current issues since years ago, they weren't as problematic as they are now but they were there even in the early years.

Didn't Levy get is seroius trouble with JT for running a play of his own at the end of the big game?
also, is Steve Levy any relation to Marv?

As a JC All-American, Joe Ayoob was a very talented QB, and a very good running QB, in a spread offense. When he came to Cal, Jeff Tedford was not running a spread offense, but a pro set offense. He tried to make Ayoob adjust to the different system, and tried to turn Ayoob into a passer from the pocket.
A good coach tailors his offense to suit the talent that he has.
Another small example might be if you are going to run a small tailback like Sofele into the line, there should be a fullback in the game to run through the hole first, to block for Sofele. This is not the case with Tedford's offense.

agreed....Tedford ruined Ayoob. Ayoob in the right system could have been much better

I was certain Joe Ayoob was the lousiest QB I had seen.
I might be wrong.
Tedford may be the most overrated QB coach in the history of football, and he ruined Ayoob. Only Aaron Rodgers survived his coaching.

Yes but remember that the projected starter for 2005 was Nate Longshore, who was well suited to Tedford's offense. Ayoob might have been able to adjust to the change better if he had had more time, but Longshore's season-ending leg injury in the first quarter of the first game forced Ayoob into the starting role well before he was ready. And it showed.
