I have followed the Giants longer than any other team, including Cal. First game in 1959, at old Seals Stadium. In 1962 I was out in the street with my neighbor jumping up and down and yelling that the Giants had won the pennant. Perhaps the heartbreak in that last game prepared me for years of Cal fandom. I will admit that this year was not as emotional as two years ago, and I am still a bit numb about all of this. I don't think anything can replace the surprise of two years ago, and this doesn't necessarily make up for the failure of Cal football, but I will take it.

Agree that 2010 was more special to me. Marty at KNBR said it right. We didn't know what we were going to get in 2010. We sort of knew what would be the end of the rainbow in 2012.

I still enjoy the it.

2010 was the first so it was more special, but the whole 2012 season has its own "specialness."
We got a Prefect Game from Cain. The young Buster Posey won the Batting Title, Come back player of the year, Hank Aaron Award, 2nd World Series ring, and he'll certainly get that NL MVP. We see Sandoval take Verlander deep 3 straight times.
Won 6 straight elimination games after down 0-2 and 1-3 in the first two rounds. Then sweeping the World Series.

Great group of guys too. It's easy to root for them and hard to pick just one favorite player on the team. Even the manager and coaching staff rank right up there as fan favorites.

I too have been a fan of the Giants longer than any other team (since about 1965 when I was 8). 1989 and 2002 were bitter disappointments, 2010 an incredible, exciting, at times tortuous ride. This year was remarkable with the comebacks, not just in the Cincy and St. Louis series, but also from the whole Melky stomach punch. I did not celebrate this year as I did in 2010 but this victorious season is very satisfying.

2010 was the big exhale. Up until the final out, I never really believed it would happen -- in the back of my mind I really thought they would find some way to blow it spectacularly.

2012 I was actually able to enjoy it, as I could just have fun on the ride without expectations. But at the same time, not as special.

Kinda surreal watching it from Salt Lake with an old college friend. Missed being able to head out to SF to celebrate after the victory like I did in 2010 since I won't be back home till tonight but really cool to be able to pick up knbr all the way out here and listen to the postgame with Kruk and Kuip.

I'll be back for the parade on Wednesday, though, and lovin every minute of it.

That's the amazing thing about the Giants. We love all of our players individually. Add that together and you have one of the most entertaining and awesome teams in baseball. A casual baseball fan can easily fall in love with the Giants because they make it fun to cheer for them.

How can you hate that?

GO GIANTS!

My 2012 column here, if anyone wants to read it [or not]: http://calibermag.org/articles/yes-we-cain-the-giants-are-champions-again/

Personally, '10 will always be the most special, but these guys deserve their own applause and attention for rallying back from 6 do or die games...pretty remarkable in itself.

2002: Bears are bowl ineligible; Giants go to the World Series
2003: Bears go to Insight Bowl; Giants (best record in baseball, if I recall) stunned in 4 games by Marlins
2004: Bears go to Holiday Bowl. No post-season for the Giants
2005: Bears go to Vegas Bowl. No post-season for the Giants.
2006: Bears go to Holiday Bowl. No post-season for the Giants.
2007: Bears go to Armed Forces Bowl. No post-season for the Giants.
2008: Bears go to Emerald Bowl. No post-season for the Giants.
2009: Bears go to Poinsettia Bowl. No post-season for the Giants.
2010: No post-season for the Bears. Giants win the World Series.
2011: Bears go to Holiday Bowl. No post-season for the Giants.
2012: Bears suck. Giants win the World Series.

Can't both my teams be good in the same year?

Right now, I agree with you...but it's possible that 10 or 20 years from now, I'll remember the 2012 WS win more fondly than the 2010 championship.

As a Cal/Giants fan, I don't have a lot of experience reacting to multiple championships. (Understatement alert!) But of the 49er Super Bowl championships, the first one (SB16) is definitely not my favorite. Both SB19 and 24 are above 16 on my list. So for me, I'll wait to see how well these age in my memory.
