We ate at kips before the basketball game last night and almost did not make the game. even though there were few people there, it took 35 minutes to get a Hamburger. If you thought Pappys was slow...

The Burger was ok, much better than before but nothing like the Kips Burgers of the 70's and 80's when the had the big charcoal grill downstairs. The 1/3 lb burger was good but did not arrive medium rare as I ordered it.I did not like the Kips secret sauce or the hard bun they use. There so so little cheese you could not really taste it.No refills for my coke, .55.

Either they don't have the basketball schedule or they don't care. Not a good sign.

I'm surprised Kip's is still around. It was going south even when I was there in the early 90s. Location, location, location.

The crunchy thing you ate with it wasn't grilled onions, it was a cockroach.

Messing with breads, sauces garnish, etc is fine as long as options are retained for the purist. Good meat, grilled over charcoal (w or w/o cheese), a decent bun and a DIY garnish bar is all I want. Unfortunately, so many restaurant "consultants" seem to think they know what I should like that it's hard to find what I do like anymore.

worked busing dishes and running the cash register downstairs at Kips in the 70s. Food was ok but late-night crowd was scruffy. walking home down telegraph at 1 am was always interesting.
